How was he a hero exactly? Because he fought for your freedom or something?
Because aside from some of his exploits that are of mythological proportions, the guy still has many tales that are definitely vetted. Those V for Valor awards are typically given when a great risk is taken to protect others, nonetheless that he has a Silver Star. I'll bet there are many military members out there owing their lives to him. Then after he got out of the Navy he continued to help veterans especially those struggling with life. Of which one of those guys took his life while he was literally trying to help the guy.
Thus the MF'er is a hero, nothing to do with your freedom bud.
