not surprised, james cameron wanted to make avatar for like 20 years and slowly worked on research on how animal species evolve and shit, to design everything in the movie. he also kept pushing to develop 3d movie technology, just so he can make avatar. after avatar came out, he produced that cave movie, sanctum, so he could fuck around with underwater 3d to prepare him for avatar 2

he probably feels like his whole career was just preparing him to make these

Honestly i want Earth to fucking kick the aliens ass.

I agree. But unfortunately James Cameron has a message to preach so that wont happen, at least not in the long run.

Honestly lol the last movie was pretty awful. unless this one is bad ass i dont think ill go an see it

Exactly. Nuking the surface is a sure way to clear out a large area to begin easy excavation of the unobtanium. Certainly the humans have suits and technology that can withstand the subsequent radiation that's left floating around. I really hope one of the sequels ends jet black, with the humans nuking the shit out of the blue bastards. Nuke them straight to hell!

GAME OF THRONES Actress Oona Chaplin Joins AVATAR Sequels

YDOGrDj.jpg

Game of Thrones' Oona Chaplin is heading to Pandora. The actress will star in James Cameron and 20th Century Fox's four Avatar sequels, it was announced Tuesday during CineEurope in Barcelona.

Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Sam Worthington are returning for the follow-ups, which are set to begin hitting theaters in 2020.

Though the plots are being kept under wraps, Chaplin will play Varang, a strong and vibrant central character who spans the entire length of the installments. Cameron said that each of the four sequels will be able to stand alone, but will together create a saga.

Avatar 2 is set to open on Dec. 18, 2020; Avatar 3 on Dec. 17, 2021; Avatar 4 on Dec. 20, 2024; and Avatar 5 on Dec. 19, 2025.

Chaplin, who is the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin, also starred in the Tom Hardy series Taboo and was seen on the big screen in the romance The Longest Ride.

Stephen Lang's Colonel Quartich to Play the Main Villain in All Four AVATAR Sequels

cpWCJy3.jpg

James Cameron is not someone who does things by halves. The man who rebuilt the Titanic is currently hard at work on four sequels to Avatar, the first of which won't land until 2020. However, there are a few things about the upcoming sequels that fans will find familiar, not least of all the principal villain. Warning: Spoilers ahead.

It's long been confirmed that Stephen Lang's Colonel Quartich would return (despite taking a pair of four-foot arrows in the chest), but talking to Empire in our September issue, Cameron reveals that Quaritch won't be relegated to a supporting role or appear solely in flashbacks. Rather, he will continue to menace Jake, Neytiri and the other Na'vi throughout all five movies as the saga's main antagonist.

"The interesting conceit of the Avatar sequels is it’s pretty much the same characters," he says. "There are new characters and a lot of new settings and creatures, so I’m taking characters you know and putting them in unfamiliar places and moving them on this greater journey. But it’s not a whole bunch of new characters every time. There’s not a new villain every time, which is interesting. Same guy. Same motherfucker through all four movies. He is so good and he just gets better. I know Stephen Lang is gonna knock this out of the park."

Was Quaritch's body smuggled off-world by the departing Selfridge? Will he return more machine than man? Or, after being skewered deep within the Pandoran forest, might he himself end up transposed into an Avatar body, bringing a blue-skinned, eight-foot Na'vi Quaritch to bear on our heroes? The mind boggles.

Cameron's mammoth undertaking, shooting four sequels back-to-back is not only ambitious, it's a feat of scheduling that Stephen Lang himself described as "a Mongoian clusterfuck". Cameron's inspiration for said clusterfuck? One Peter Jackson.

"I said 'It’s your fault I’m doing this, motherfucker!'" He recalls. "It’s one big story. But I would say a little bit different from The Lord Of The Rings, which you knew was a trilogy and that allowed you to accept a sort of truncated ending for movies one and two and then a fulfilment. This is a greater narrative broken up into four complete stories.

Is this like Saw now? The villain dies early in the franchise but for some reason keeps coming back in all the sequels

James Cameron spearheading WETA is enough for me. Stephen Lang just makes it sweeter. "Same motherfucker." This motherfucker.

i just wish he'd to Rendezvous with Rama or At the mountains of madness.
him or somebody. not michael bay.
that crazy del Toro maybe

something.

Ugh yes. I don't understand why everything by Lovecraft isn't on the screen in some form or another. Shit is iconic and we finally have the tech for it. Del Toro would be an amazing choice as director. Pan's Labyrinth convinces me he has the right kind of vision for it (man that movie was great).

Back on topic, four movies? Fucking why?

People loved Avatar cause 3D, but multiple iterations smurfs in space is not going to match up to the Disney machine at this point, unless Cameron does something groundbreaking again from a technical perspective.

Also, moar Miles Quaritch. I honestly liked him better than the smurfs. At least he had a motivation that made sense. Just pretend he was a clone or something and bring him back.

It's too bad Cameron is wrapped up immaking 4 sequels nobody wanted instead of you know... anything else...

Honestly I was never entirely sure with Del Toro being suited to lovecraft, his Spanish language stuff is great but is generally pretty romantic(even with the horror elements) rather than mind shredding whilst his Hollywood stuff has always been pretty light(if often fun).

I'd agree though the Avatar sequels will not have it easy in terms of making massive money although I suspect the first is garneted at least a decent return, say $500 million world wide at a minimum which would probably be enough to keep the series on track for another film.

You do have to say as well that whatever the faults of the original Cameron still can direct big action scenes incredibly well and I suspect that will mean responses are at least decent even if the politics/characters stay as simplistic as the original.

Lang will be 90 before the first trailer is released. These are going to bomb big time

The first one was just in the right place at the right time. It was incredibly beautiful to look at and the 3D was the best I've ever seen in a movie at the time. The acting was average, the dialogue was horrendous, and the story was recycled. Wouldn't shock me if these did well since even Transformers and Fast and Furious rake in tons of money, but wouldn't shock me if they failed. Honestly who cares about Avatar anymore? Seems like Cameron cares way more about it than the marketplace does.

I loved everything about the first movie & eagerly await being able to have new adventures in that world.

What you could argue I spose is that he's waiting so long that actually the Avatar backlash might have cooled off somewhat and it will become more of a nostalgia draw.

Stephen Lang is a nut job. Back before IMDB removed the discussion topics the actors who played Lang's kid on an episode of the Equalizer posted about the episode. Lang played an abusive husband in the episode and the poster played his kid. Apparently Lang is crazy and terrorized the kid and the woman playing the mother. The poster went into detail and it was pretty disturbing.

Wish IMDB had not eliminated the movie discussion threads.

The same bad guy for 4 back to back movies, oh c'mon.

Whatever, with more time and more news my give a shit meter for this is way going down.

The next one will make bank but will not set any records, his new gimmick will get people hyped up like 3D with no glasses or the heck his working on.

After that all others will take less and less money. This ain't OMFG levels, people got over Avatar faster then expected.

Like others said it we could have had way more interesting movies not another 4 freaking Avatar films.

Well when Waldo gets killed off in into the badlands we'll know why.
