I'm thinking the same thing everyone else is.

Why the hell did you give the main character CGI eyes?

Before I go any further into the aesthetics argument, I'd like to point out that a lot of human psychological interaction happens from eye contact. I believe, since the whole cast of this film (appears to be) does not have facial CGI components in the eyes, it only strengthens the bizarre feeling that most of us are getting from seeing this.

Remember seeing the part in where the main actress and the (assumed) love interest lock eyes for a romantic moment? Did you not feel almost thrown off by it? Didn't it just feel unnatural?

This is my point; eyes are important part of human interaction on some of the deepest and most primitive levels. We interact with our eyes without knowing, and eyes can say a lot about certain things that we sometimes overlook. This movie is off putting because we are seeing something that appears to us as unnatural, hence, why everyone is saying things like "creepy" and the such.

Now, if the movies had everyone having CGI eyes, I'm confident that, though unorthodox, the film wouldn't feel as off putting. Shes a polar bear on a golf course on a hot summer day in Miami.

Now, aesthetically, I think she looks fucking retarded.

Is she supposed to be half robot or half cartoon?

Isnt she supposed to be special though? Something definitely not the norm? Maybe there is a purpose to her eyes being that way. Hopefully they didn't go this route without having a good reason for it.

So they don't run into any ghost in the shell, ethnicity casting type problems. With anime eyes no one's gonna talk shit about the casting.

That's a good point. I'd czech out her panzer kunst.

They could have saved money and brought in Christina Ricci. I mean, if this was fifteen years ago when it was first mentioned.

What the fuck were they thinking with the eyes?!?! This is live action and she's the only one who looks like that. How much of their god damn budget did they spend making this into uncanny-valley unwatchable bullshit?!

    I am not happy.

Basically this is Ghost in the Shell, but the heroine is not as tough starting out, and has to become badass.

    Yuck.

    More action less acting.

Sauce for those who haven't seen it:

To be fair, the only ones who would bitch about casting for Alita would be people ignorant of the source material. Gunnm takes place hundreds of years in the future and The Scrapyard is actually located in the US. Add to that that Alita herself is a full-body cyborg and is originally from Mars and you've got a character that is not at all Japanese. Visually Rosa Salazar is a good fit even without the gratuitous CGI-ification:

Not going to lie, this looks awesome.

I don't know anything about the source material so I don't care at all about that, but man, I like what I see here, and I think her eyes look fantastic.

Can't wait to see this. Trailer was amazing, excellent choice of song.

My guess is just for manga looks. She's just an android, human head, robot body.

They got the look right, it's pretty good. Just weird looking at a human with huge eyes. But she does look like Gally.

To be honest, the anime was a travesty of the manga. Manga story line is deep. Good stuff.
