It looks awesome to me. I love it.
Sure, but it's cooler looking than cgi because it's real.
One look at those eyes and millions of Japanese men got erections
It seems so pointless to me, the character doesn't really look that interesting with a CGed face, rather a cheesey doll/anime hybrid and the performance almost certainly isn't going to be as good as a regular actress could have given.
I must admit generally I don't rate Robert Rodriguez that highly as a director, he has done some decent exploitation genre films but unlike Taratino he doesn't transcend that style for me. Honestly I'm pretty shocked he ended up with a $200 million budget given that he's never worked on anything close to that previously and is pretty deep into his career.
I wouldn't totally rule it out I spose, Waltz is almost always worth watching and Cameron is involved which normally means at least a decent script and perhaps some ideas for action sequences? maybe it might simple benefit from following the backlash Ghost in the Shell critically as well? just as an alternative the media will latch onto? Still though I think theres the potential for this to be a John Cartner level bomb.
Looks like crap.
Update: February 13, 2018
ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL Release Moved from July 20, 2018 to December 21, 2018
I hope that's not a bad sign. I desperately want this to be good.
Let's hope they use the extended time to revert Alita's anime bug eyes back to normal.
If the eyes are not buggy I wont see it
Not because I like the buggy eyes but because of the stupid backlash behind them
July to December, that's a big jump.
At this point I don't know if they could even do that, given the costs that must have been involved in doing it in the first place. As the main character that effect has got to be present in like 40%+ of the whole run-time. And considering how effects heavy everything else is it wouldn't be as simple as just removing that one thing, the entire shot would have to be re-composited.
Hopefully heyrengivingnher normal eyes.
Im excited for this film but i hope they keep this movie with the more adult themes of the anime
This gives more of a look at the plot, and it seems they are being really quite faithful to the manga.
Also, Kodansha has been releasing the manga in English (Dark Horse's original treatment went OOP years ago). I've been buying them as they're released and the quality is excellent. Definitely worth checking out for comic/cyberpunk fans.
Yeah...the bug eyes doesn't work if she's the only one with it. Anime/manga gets away with it because of homogeneity.
The bug eyes are growing on me
I'm still not sure how I feel about the bug eyes, but if I'm being honest, that's my ONLY gripe so far.
The second trailer makes the action look bananas. I can't wait.
