I read an article that said Nusra rebranding itself helps Russia because now Nusra is free to more overtly join with other rebels and Russia has a better excuse to bomb the other rebels while bombing Al Nusra ; since no one is going to buy Nusra as moderate so they will get targetted anyways.
Russia wasnt in any way restraining itself before in that way so il doubt itl assist them at all
This move is with u.s in mind and their attepts to shoehorn nursra away from other rebels
If this offensive breaks the seige while the fsa southern front sits idle in daara itl be the exact opposite of what west wantee ....ie itl be a large moderate force hated by other groups for not helping while nursra beloved for bleeding alongside them.

In a not so suprising turn of events it appears that Assads forces are about to get besieged in Aleppo.

Judging by the pace of advancement, SDF should have the whole city in about 2 weeks.

Naplam being used by regime in daryaa! Pics are amazing
I know its killing innocent humans but its facinating stuff to watch

Contested reports about regime supply line below rebel aleppo surge
If rebels have cut or at least gotten fire control over routes it means the siegers are themselves besieged withour siege itself being broken!

It sounds like the rebels are taking huge losses according to reports. Just how much armour and troops can they lose. Being bombed day and night by Russia can't be good for their morale. If they fail in this offensive it's going to have a domino effect.

Looks like Assadists managed to stabilize the front in southern Aleppo and managed to capture some lost territory though the regime supply corridor to Aleppo remains precariously narrow.

Still going on about morale eeh?
The regime and its allies are taking heavy losses too bro.

If the rebel offensive fails it'll be a huge blow to rebel morale, and they'll still be sieged. Their main problem is no air force. Being bombed from the air relentlessly is traumatising.

I'm a wait and see kind of person. Meanwhile you almost jizzed in your pants when Al Qaeda and buddies reported gains.

If it fails itl still have been a huge blow to a manpower strapped regime and has shown how fluid those lines are
If it suceeds though......

Im waiting too buddy was just mockung those who felt this was even close to over ..the past few days have shown that

Side note heavy dier el zour battles still raging as isis try and exploit iranian redeployment

900 defect from southern front today in disgust at leaderships inactivity

Well, looks like Russia air power has pounded the rebels into giving up their gains:

Government forces have reportedly gained ground after a rebel offensive in the Syrian city of Aleppo.

Intense fighting has continued since the weekend, when rebels started trying to break a government siege of rebel-held areas.

The army has been fighting back with the help of Russian air strikes to stop the rebels breaking through.

They set off a huge tunnel bomb underneath army positions in the strategic Ramouseh district.

But by midweek, activists were saying the Syrian government's forces had recaptured territory.

What it has shown is that the complete mobilisation of the entire northern rebellion can't advance further than a few hundred meters. But yeah the goverment are obviously the losers in this.... I really believed that this operation would be able to make alot more gains than it did so far. Such a concentration of force should be able to penetrate alot deeper.

It's too late for Al-Qaeda and friends now, they are getting bogged down and pounded by air and artillery, getting equipment they can't replace destroyed, their rear and supply routes harassed and every concentration of fighters blown up. They are so desperate they asked activists to not post any information or pictures anymore because obviously Russians are getting all their info on movements from twitter.

Well looks like grinding away has given way to collapse. ISIS broken into pieces in Manbij:

Giving up their gains? They are a few vieds away from ending siege by some reports and conflicting reports seem to suggest they may have cut off some of the northern regime above rebel gains...but wel see

Assad has recently appeared on national tv using facetime(doing an edrogan) to appeal for his aleppo supporters to assist with battle, not a sign of things going well.

South set to explode too! 3 fsa guys who wanted to leave southern front in daara to help in aleppo battle have been executed by leadership there! After recent defections this could trigger splits.

Deir el zour battles rage, recent regime posting of 1000 iraqi milita was wise move as isis seem desperate for win somewhere, conflicting reports say they have taken a hotel and surrounding area so may have crept further towards airbase....if true that is

Lol isis have been wasting men on the deir ezzor meat grinder forever. Finally taking it would hardly be a win at this point.

Manpower isnt an issue for them they seem to be a nutcase magnet globaly
Its the prestige and weaponry theyd gain
So while the russian air force is otherwise busy they are apparently attacking on 7 fronts there.

8 senior nursra figures and 200 of their fighters set to defect to isis over the aq split.

Wait, what?

3 rebels wanted to go help other rebels and their leadership executed them? WTF?
