Is there anybody in Brazil cheering for Colby Covington?

Uhhh yeah there are a lot of casuals at events. And you can't judge based off crowd noise either, some crowds and people are just louder than others.

I mean consider UFC events in Japan where the crowd is pretty quiet either way. Do you think nobody is rooting for anyone because the crowd is muted?

US events = casuals who just go there to be seen there but not really anywhere else, there are far fewer events so it's the real fans who get the tickets the day they're released and sell out.

Load or quiet the Japanese fans wanted the Japanese fighters to win, that was clear from the reaction when they won or lost.

Conor can beat Nate in the US and the crowd cheers. If Nate beats Conor in Dublin they have to get in extra security to escort Nate from the cage and to protect him from all the bottles that the crowd would be throwing at him.

I'm American and I hope he gets his ass kicked. Blind nationalism is for idiots. Even that asshole Werdum gets full support from his country. Tries to beat up a lightweight and a welterweight and they still love him. America > Brazil.

Blind nationalism is for idiots . '' America > Brazil '' Lol, You sir are a fucking moron . In so many accounts, in so many ways. Want me to draw the reasons? here we go..

To begin with, your location says Philippines-usa, so you are prolly another Pinoy living in america, doing some kind of hard working full time job, with delusions of Grandeur.

I've met plenty of pinooys, who kinda forgot their true heritage and embraced the american one, even though based on false morals, go figure.. Jus Solis? jus Sanguinis? lol

You state that blind nationalism is for idiots, and in your next sentence you write " America > Brazil "' You just contradict yourself in your very next sentence, that alone shows how much of a moron you are.

Next time im gonna start a sentence like, '' blind nationalism is for retards, '' Vietnam > America . how cool is that? prolly that will make me as retarded as you are?

Another false assumption by you , is that Werdum gets full support from his country? how moronic is that? I'm a true irish american 6th generation, and ive been working in brazil for the last 2 years and half, and ive met Several People who disliked, Vitor, Anderson, Werdum, and so many... Don't let lesser idiots like Chael sonnen pull the wool on fools like you, Try to read some history, social activity, get out of your basement and travel a bit. what you said is just, FAlse, FALse and moronic.

another point that proves that you are full of shit, is that Colby started the shit With Werdum, when werdum was walking buy, he mocked and debauched him and his coach ,,, '' brazilians filthy animals ''

What should werdum do? Back up, just cause he is the taller guy? Get real , Zero tolerance for idiots like colby, regardless if you are a midget, a goliath, a manlet, whatever.. and it goes the other way around also..

Would Some American fighter entertain the idea of being mocked as '' a fillthy aninmal,, monkey, etc etc '? get real..

Tony also, was rude to werdum, and werdum fought back, nothing wrong, nothing unheard of, if you wanna say shit, get ready to hear some shit back then, and werdum didnt even touch an eyelid of Tony ferguson, that shit only served to make himself a little more relevant, cause u know, he wanted to be more famous and shit, or maybe he is just a prick as Colby.

Some people like the idea of Trash Talking , ( i personally dont, The greatest fighters never needed to apply it, GSP, Anderson, Fedor, Nogueira, Cain, etc, for these, Their Work in the cage do the drill, they are not insecure pussies who need to get some recognition doing silly temper-tantrums, rehashed punchlines, old slogans, unoriginal comedies, and stuff) ) it may be argued that it helps the building of a bout, sells PPVs, okay, so be it, but even for Trash Talking there are lines that shouldnt be crossed.

I'm american, how the fuck would i react if, Some foreight guy defeated An american fighter, Called my country a Dump, Called my Fellow citizens '' filthy animals '' "' n***ggr*s? Beaners ''?

I'm american, and i'm all against disrespectful pricks like colby, conor, nick diaz, sonnen, , you name it, Just cause we've born in the same land, does not compel me to condone Idiocy, Bigotry and Mental Disorder.

That's not true, casuals everywhere root primarily by nationality simply because that's who they know or have heard of. The more hardcore fans tend to be fans based on style or personality, it's like that everywhere around the world.
That makes a whole lot of sense. Quality post.

I didn't even try to read that...gonna delve into War and Peace, for a shorter story.

Werdum tried to beat up a LW and a WW? Those dudes both initiated it, you want him to do nothing? Fabricio ain't no bitch, what's wrong with you... Never thought I'd see an opinion like this from an American on an MMA forum.

No offense to Americans, it's a good stereotype. Don't take shit from anyone and stand up for yourself

Yep

No weight class in the street

To cap it off :

0- Blind nationalism is for idiots
1- Vietnam > America
2- You are not even American, my hunch is that you are from the Philippines ( Pinoy)
3- Colby disrespected werdum multiple times, insulted, mocked him and his trainer.
4- what are you supposed to do? take shit from a moron like him?
5- How would you feel if Colby beat your fellow Philippino fighter, and Called Phillipines a Dumpster, its people Filthy animals, Full of n*ggers, and so on?

6- Stop being a moron, Not everyone supports werdum in brazil, as not everyone supports Conor in Ireland, and so on.

7- I dont like Werdumn nor Conor, but if asked to choose over Colby, i would take both without a blink. its not about being brazilian, irish, or whatever, is about having a concept that u dont seem to fathom, ' Decency, honor, '

Don't be a moron. There are many Brazilians fans who loves Fedor, Jones, GPS e etc. Even Connor has his fans. And it's not like every Brazilian fighter is liked in Brazil. Belfort has many Brazilians haters for example.

No. There's a much stronger chance of the average Brazilian MMA fan supporting their fighters than there is in the US. One would have to be delusional to deny that. Oh well, I'm an American fan of RDA and look forward to him beating the snot out of Colby. Gonna be good! :)

Probably true, but it really doesn't seem like that. I think you will get shanked in Brazil for even acknowledging for a minute that Stipe completely punked Werdum.

Population: 207.7 million
The chances of at least one guy being Colby's fan are very high. I need to study his followers / comments to know for sure.

Regardless of nationality, is there anybody cheering for Covington?

Good job, evading all my points that called your bullshit into question.

Again you made a vapid and devoid of logic post. What makes your statement true? Care to provide evidences? What data do you have in hand ? Show me your polls, your work. For all that i care theres a much stronger chance of the average naturalized pinoy-american like you support an american fighter than in brazil., ami rite?

Butthurt and rednecks go berserk when they watch anything american competing, ' usa usa usa usa '. lol;

Fighters like GSP are more respected in Brazil than the likes of Belfort, Rousimar Palhares, Big Foot Silva, etc.

Sorry, you are wrong again.

@sirmorbach is probably your best bet, he's a well known brazilian apologist; always hating on their heroes and such.

<{Fergie}>

I really dislike many of the Brazilian (so-called) "heroes", but that's not because they're Brazilian. The fact of the matter is that I don't agree with mixing up what's supposed to be an individual sport with abstract concepts like nationality and (fake) patriotism.

That said, I (i) love RDA and (ii) think Colby Covington is an absolute moron. lol. Like I said, I don't root for Brazilians just because they're Brazilians, but I don't necessarily root against them either.

Especially when one of them is fighting a clown who tries too hard but is too dumb to do it.

My point was that casuals usually root for the more well-known fighter...and the more well-known fighter is *usually* the guy from the nation the event is held in. That's because the UFC tends to give local fighters favorable matchups on overseas cards, which means the local guys are usually fighting some no name. This happens more often on overseas cards than US cards, so what you think is a disparity in nationalism is really a disparity in matchmaking.

In the case where the local fighter fights a bigger name, the bigger name usually gets more support. That's why Ronda got more support than Bethe when they fought, even though that fight was in Brazil and McGregor got more support than Diaz when they fought, even though the fight was in the US.

I mean how do you explain Ronda being more popular than Bethe in Brazil, the country people usually point to when moaning about the perceived lack of patriotism among American fans compared to other countries? How do you explain the enormous popularity of many international fighters during Pride?
