The biggest mistake I made initially was releasing the clutch pedal too quickly - resulting in terribly hard stalls. Beginners are not used to using their left foot let alone depressing a pedal slowly. What helps tremendously is moving the seat much closer than what you're used to which gives you better control of the clutch pedal.
Another helpful tip is to know that you can always just press back down on the clutch pedal to completely disengage at any time and just start over as opposed to trying to play through a rouge clutch engagement.
Find an empty parking lot and play around with it until you get the basics down.
