In all fairness, there were very few fighters coming out of that area at all prior to SBG. Let's not expect every one that makes it into the UFC to touch gold. Like the great prophet Kanye West said, gotta crawl before you ball. Conor is the exception, not the rule.

No it's not a gimmick, there are thousands of gyms over the world, some are top tier and have the majority of UFC/Bellator talent, then you have some shit gyms, and other solid gyms which maybe have solid regional fighters.
I think SBG is a solid regional style gym, that just happens to have Conor and a few other really talented guys, and would probably be way bigger again if the gym wasn't in Ireland, my point being it's a solid gym though with a lot of local talent coming through.

Can you believe this bum Kavanagh even wrote a damn book based off Conor's success and suckers bought it. With the book being called 'Win or Learn' I fully expect Conor to being reading it after Floyd schools him. Most overrated trainer in all of MMA. Just goes to show what a gem of an all round trainer Firas Zahabi is, knowledgeable as hell in all aspects of MMA, trainer of more than just 1 top fighter, humble, doesn't write a book based off of short term success with 1 fighter to make a quick buck etc...

Harry Wiley trained the best boxer EVER (Sugar Ray Robinson). When Robinson lost, it wasn't because of Wiley's lack of implementing technique, conditioning and a gameplan; it was Robinson's lack of applying all of those effectively in the fight.

Conor is successful in spite of, not because of, Irish Edmond.

They're doing insanely well for such a new and small gym in such a tiny country.

    US population = 320m
    Ireland's population = 5m

Those gyms are some of the biggest gyms in the world. SBG is a small gym in a country with only 4 million people. SBG is basically a small regional gym who has put multiple guys in the ufc

Isn't there some guy in Bellator, Strawbannanimal or some terrible nickname, that is supposedly hot shit or something, coming out of SBG?

lets just put it this way,Kavnanagh is a grappler based trainer and his best "creation" is a striker who lost by submission 3 times.

You only notice them because they get undeserved shots.

That Charlie Ward got a shot in the UFC is laughable, the fact he got a second shot after his first performance speaks volumes about where the promotion is currently at.

SBG Ireland is really a baby in terms of being an MMA fighters gym, most of their current or retired fighters came to MMA later in life and were training in damp garages with part time jobs, they have hugely over achieved so far.

They should really be judged in about 5 years time, when the youngster who caught the bug when Conor burst onto the scene are starting to come through, those are the guys who will have been training with SBG since they were kids.

Signs are very good if James Gallagher is anything to go on...

Well, it's international with gyms in the US, Europe, Asia, and Australia. It's based out of Portland.

Gunni & Gallagher both have great BJJ, and John Kavanagh is responsible for that, he gave all of Gunni's belts to him right up until the black belt, which at the time he could not give out as he himself hadn't had his black belt long enough yet, John is a legit 3rd degree black belt and will prove the haters wrong eventually.
