Ever since Conor hit the scene, his coaching staff (especially Kavanagh) have been made to look like these new and innovative coaches who are changing the game.

However, it looks like Kavanagh isn't as good as the media makes him out to be.

Last night SBG Ireland had a shit night going 0-3.

    1. Charlie Ward got knocked the fuck out
    2. Neil Seery got smoked
    3. Gunnar Nelson got KTFO

Artem Lobov is doing terrible, Cathal Pendred retired on a losing skid, Holohan retired after getting choked by Smolka.

I don't know if they have any other fighters, I know obviously Conor is doing well. James Gallagher is also rising up, need to see him fight some names however.

Seems like their team is just riding on the backs of Conor more and more.

Artem isn't doing badly at all. He went full five against Cub, who's a legit elite FW.

You're not going to get a dozen #1 P4P fighters out of a single small gym in Ireland. For the talent pool they have access to, they're doing really, really well.

And what do you expect the coach to do? Genetically engineer fighters from some tubes? He's working with what he's got, he can't be blamed if they don't have the talent to go further.

I think you are reading too much into it.
At some point, tristar was doing great. Then they fell.
At some point, Jackson Wink was doing great. Then they fell.
At some point, AKA was doing great. Then they fell.
At some point, Blackzillians was doing great. Then they fell.

Every single gym had their low point and their high times.
Some fighter comes out, starts winning and the morale goes up and all of a sudden, that gym has killers.

But then someone loses, someone gets injured, morale takes a hit and they lose.

It is not always like that, but that's the highs and lows of some great gyms in MMA.

I don't see anything wrong with it.

Coaches have never been too important with a few exceptions. Their main goal is to keep the fighter regimented and prepared. They don't improve their abilities much at all past the amateur level when natural talent takes over. They are tasked with making sure the fighter is utilising their ability.

Remember Roy Jones' trainer Alton Merkerson? Lol, he would get completely ignored by Roy; just give him his water.

One case I can think of to the contrary is how Emanuel Steward changed Wlad. Also Overeem at Jackson's to a lesser extent.

heck, even Edmond was a genius while Ronda was beating up girls and collecting arms....
And if she'd rebound, he would probably be back at the top...

What talent has Kavanagh made worse?

He can only do so much with what he has.

    Great assumption.

The difference is all those gyms listed, even with their low moments have had 10+ guys who were still ranked Top 15 in the world.

SBG has only ever had one fighter to get ranked inside the Top 10

It's not that bad TS, you're overreacting. IMO they just need to bring in a new boxing coach and someone who can teach proper head movement/footwork.

Not saying he has made talent shit. It's just as of late people are looking at the guy as some sort of new age MMA guru who has all the answers. When realistically, he's only had one fighter in Conor to exemplify this change in guard of MMA

Well yeah there aren't blue chip MMA prospects rolling through Ireland every day. I don't think Kavanagh is the best or anything but I think he's more than good enough for UFC level competition.

Threads like these are the worst. Fighters are allowed to lose, people.
