Inference on Criminality using Face Images

I suppose you can. But I was not speculating about explanations. Instead, I was responding to the claim that 'there isn't an underlying theory' is a PC criticism, not a scientific criticism.

Just making conversation dude.

So are the scientific merits of the work that are judged, or is it the liberal dogma that is being offended? Fortunately for them, the Chinese aren't being neutered by political correctness. No wonder they have only contempt for the West.

hiya Vespasian,

where in the article is anything said about liberal dogma?

the study itself hasn't been peer reviewed, either - so as a layman, how are you to judge the scientific merits (or lack thereof?).

I feel like this is basically a 2016 computer and data driven version of phrenology, which was dismissed as quackery decades ago.

The paper is available on arxiv: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1611.04135v2.pdf

As expected, this study ignited a firestorm in the liberal academia

Note that the critics are not disputing the findings of the study. They're saying there is no theoretical reason why the results should hold. Does this mean the study is invalid? Apparently so, according to the liberal mindset. If data does not conform to prejudices, it should be ignored or disputed.

I guarantee you the Disney Corporation already has this, and that it matches faces to names, and public information.
