In UFC your star power sizzles fast, look at Andrei Arlovski from star to undercard guy

Yet he's still making 200-300k a fight.

Imagine if Datsik could have taken the fight later and got on a little streak feuding with Big Timmeh, Rizzo and other heavyweights of the time.

Amazing record. Ended his career with 2 submission victories, preceded by 4 UD losses.

I bet some main card level fighters would rather have undercardlovski salary.

BJ Penn fighting and losing to Denis Siver nobody was talking to him during that fight week. Fans forget all about BJ and Andre.
yeah and then when he came out with the mask on to spar with Cyborg, he revealed himself and was expecting loud cheers nobody cared, and then he walked out to the side nobody was asking for his autograph or pics like before in his prime very sad

Go to boxing events and the old timers are mobbed by fans, because boxing fans are real fans, UFC fans are just guys who watch whatever is popular on tv, they are fickle there is a new flavor of the month

A lot of them dont even know who Don Frye or Dan Severn are, My friend said during hall of fame week, Maurice smith and pete El Duro williams who is only 42 still young was there and nobody gave a shit, these guys are OG's.

Ive never see this type of stuff in other sports, Arlovski lost a few times long time ago and he fell off, he hasn't been a star since.

That's because he lost five in a row.

It's not a good look for a sport, or an org, to have the same guys at the elite level for two decades. In other sports, the elite level should change every few years if no one is juicing and cheating (TRT). Baseball was screwed up when everyone was juicing and guys got better as they got older while their heads got bigger.

IMO the biggest reason for this is because an average UFC career is only a couple fights. The guys that stick around and fight in the UFC 10+ times are either perennial contenders or put on exciting fights. So when a loss could potentially comprise 25% of your entire career in the UFC, yeah, it's devastating to lose.

Couple that with a fighter getting older and their chin fading, it's really easy to write them off. I personally would never in a million years have guessed Arlovski would not only make it back to the UFC, but almost fight for a title again.

Pettis and Hendricks took faster career downturns.

Fickle is Fate and Fandom.

Don't be so invested in some unknown icon, enjoy them for what they are there for, entertainment and more importantly Blood!

It is amazing how imbedded some are on these things.

2005 Arlovski approves this thread

He looks like a fahkin' Greek God in that picture. Even Alexander the Great would have trouble staying focused in the Octagon w/ 2005 Arlovski.

Your star power will drop when you are knocked out in seconds by homosexual tire repairmen for Sam’s Club.

You do realize he was no longer a star by the time he returned to the UFC right?

Sorry MMA fans, BJ Penn/Arlovski and Roberto Duran are not comparable stars.

These MMA guys are sitcom stars. Duran is a Oscar winning star.

No.

Eddie Alvarez fought on the prelims last year, just a few months after he was once champion.
To be fair they were on a damn fine stacked card. Every fight on the main besides the Branch-Jotko one was pretty high profile.

It's not the just fighting, maintaining interest in anything is harder than ever these days.

Technology, internet, and smartphones have lowered everyone's attention spans to almost nothing. It's the consequences of information overload. No time to examine anything, it's always go go go what's next what's next...
