If you think Khabib won´t be champ because of his striking, you probably don´t remember this guy.

One question. Why did he carry him all the way over there? Was there some tactical advantage to him being on his back at that spot in the cage?
yes, in his opponent´s mind he is thinking "I'm a useless bum getting ragdolled everywhere, and I can´t do anything to stop it", you know.

He was a great champion, but the game has evolved a lot since his era. Fighters are better at everything now. Bad comparison.
Unidimensional fighter like Hughes, Ortiz and others were extremely successful back then.

Unidimensional fighters like Conor, Khabib, Maia and others are still extremely successful nowadays despite your "fighters are better everywhere it´s a new era" thing.

The comparison is good, your argument is a bad one.

Khabib certainly can. Plus, if Khabib beats Conor (I think Khab beats Tony), Conor is not going to want a rematch.

TS should be banned, either for trolling or for being so stupid it equals trolling.

People arguing that they're "different eras" or bullshit like that, pretty much every champion at the moment specialises on one thing barr a couple (DJ being the most obvious). Khabib hasn't got great striking but he is good at striking-into-wrestling and that's all that matters. For those of you that don't fight yourselves, when a good grappler gets their hands on you, you're in for a long fucking night, especially if you're not a high level grappler yourself. And anyone else that is close to his wrestling level will likely also have crappy striking themselves and not be able to finish him standing either.

Stipe - Decent boxer with half-decent wrestling
DC - Great wrestler with shit striking
Bisping - Decent kickboxer with half decent wrestling and BJJ
Woodley - Decent wrestler with power in his hands
McGregor - Great striker with shit wrestling/BJJ
Aldo - Decent striker with decent TDD
Garbrandt - Decent striker with decent wrestling
DJ - Great at everything
(Note that this is in comparison to their competition before you get all butthurt about me saying something you don't like about one of your favourites)

Not including WMMA because it's still fairly new in comparison and finding itself but you get my point.

I know Nurmagomedov will be champion and will go on to become the longest reigning champion of all time. Mark my words Sherdog, mark them well.

People like to talk shit about Khabibs striking but they have to understand that his standup is very effective to achieve what he wants and thats the clinch and takedowns. Its not pretty or technically great.....but it is effective. He uses aggression and well placed power punches to get inside and clinch. The purpose isnt to win a stand up battle but rather to get his opponent distracted and get the fight down. With this style his opponents stand up becomes less and less effective as the fight goes on to the point where Khabib starts to win the stand up exchanges........look at the Johnson fight and RDA fight, both better stand up fighters but both guys couldnt beat him standing and ended up losing the stand up exchanges as the fight progressed.

I'm not saying there's no validity to this, but RDA was straight up piecing Khabib up in rd 3 standing before RDA inexplicably decided to try a takedown. Khabib reversed it and put RDA on his back. This kind of contradicts what you're saying (although again, I do think you have a point--the threat of the TD makes Khbabi's rudimentary striking more effective).

I'm not even an Aldo fan but ffs if you think he only has "decent" TDD, your standards are retardedly high. Guy is one of the hardest guys to take down I've ever seen in MMA. That's since 1998 when I started following it. Almost 20 years.

Pelé is the greatest soccer legend. Guys nowadays run circles around him, do bicycle kicks for breakfast and can do it all day.

Sports evolve and athletes follow the wave. GSP showed Hughes the next level. Everyone followed but very few have catch up to GSP yet...

Jagr is 45 but he needs another 200 goals to reach Gretzky. Gretzky is the best hockey player ever. But it is the game that changed, too. Nobody can ever reach Gretzky's statistics: the game is not played that way anymore.

It has evolved and players have followed.

Oh don't be so captious. You know exactly what I meant and it doesn't change my point.

to you, did you forget about this guy???????

Dude had terrible striking!!! Yet he was the second most dominant welterweight champ in history, only after Goat Saint Pierre.

Call him whatever you like, overrated, unidimensional...

But the facts remain:

9 title fight victories. 5 of which were consecutive title defenses.

Including a finish over GSP.

and a destruction of BJ Penn

So, for those of you who keep saying Khabib can´t be a dominant champ because of his poor striking

you don´t know what you´re talking about.

Comparing Kahbib's striking to Hughes striking is laughable I get what you're saying but Hughes was completely out of it when he had to stand.

Forget Matt Hughes, what about that Hoise Graycee guy? He beat heavyweights and he had zero striking. The world is Habib's oyster. Allahu Akbar!

You should've used Once Ever as your example instead. ;)
