If you had superpowers would you feel morally obligated to help people?

Haven't read through the thread, I'm presuming most people will say Yes.

For me,
it's a whooping NOPE. Will help people when I can or feels like it.

Honestly depends on the power , if I was invulnerable and had super strength, I might be more international Punisher/ Vigilante type . I would literally juggernaut through North Korea and crush the little fat guys throat and I would be systematically be taking down ISIS Cells or Drug Cartels, I would get that information by force, fuck warrants fuck the process I would make be the motherfucking boogieman to terrorist groups , cartels and eventually to mafia as well, I will try to avoid hurting the innocent but I wouldn't lose sleep over collateral damage.

And what influences your judgements on who is good or who is bad? Local News media? Internet hearsay? Even within a single country, like your own, there are different opinions on a single subject. Which side are you going to hear to or is your perspective the only thing you use to "help" killing "bad people"?

Sometimes, the things you do aren't necessary good just because your intentions is good,

I would commit to helping people, but as another poster said, you'd soon realize how unhelpful you'd really be. Relief efforts, search and rescue, and humanitarian building projects is where super strength and shit would be most helpful.

Also, folks who say no are either a) only hardasses on the internet or 2) nihilistic through and through

Nope.
Sometimes people are just selfish. Especially so when things are given to them for free, like this imaginary gift of superpower.

Anybody who is saying yes to this is full of shit. Because there are things you can do with a superpower called "money" that can save lives and drastically improve the lives of others that you choose not to do.
I think it's a question of degree. Helping others while fucking myself over isn't in the cards.

In the same way I'd be more generous to others if I won 10M in the lotto instead of 100K, if I had Dr. Manhattan level powers (basically unfuckwittable) I would definitely help others more than if I was Daredevil or something.

I think so. But I would take care of myself and family first. The stress of work is a load I would love to remove. So after I turn invisible and steal from casinos, I could help the less fortunate.

Fuck Em!

This kind of selfishness implies a nihilistic view of the world.

But your comment to the other fellow has a point: you'd have to be very critical who you're interacting with. Killing terrorist breeds more terrorist, and the long, dark, complex history of fundamentalist extremist, especially in the Middle East, shows how impossible a decision would be.
But this is why I said humanitarian projects around the world and stuff like that. Though, crime not as epic as terrorism would be easier: sex trade, prostitution, etc.

I most likely wouldn't. I don't think I'd have the time and I wouldn't want to draw attention to myself.

i have 3 week old twins and a two year old. I could really use telekinetic powers right now.

if i had any kind of physical powers: strength and/or speed, i would play professional sports and become a fook'n legend.

contribute by becoming a role model and donating to charity and helping out humanity that way

You can't kill bad guys without many people believing you are a bad guy.

There are at least two sides to every story, so you could kill a terrorist leader, but then many people in his home country might think he's a hero and then they'll commit more terrorist acts to honor him. So you unintentionally created more terrorism. Then victims of this increased terrorism might start to blame you for your irresponsible actions.

Because of this, i feel the most prudent thing to do would be to use my powers to bang many chicks.

Spiderman level, I'd help out around the town.

Silver Surfer level, I'm taking over the world.

No. I would use my powers to better myself and hinder others. But I would somewhat be like batman because he is goat.

If I live like Peter Parker in the Toby McGuire trilogy, then no.

If I am living like Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark, then I feel like my happiness would derive more from helping others or fighting crime.

I would do it because I'm a really swell guy. Even if that means I have to take a little shit for it because it's unpopular with some.

Sounds like moderating this website.

IMO

@Lethal has all teh superpowers now. Much responsibility.

The people who think they'll become superheroes like Spiderman or Batman read too many comics.

Even if you had the powers of Spiderman, to stop a crime in progress you'd have to be lucky enough to be at the scene when the crime is being committed. NYC is fucking huge especially if you're getting around by just swinging from webs.

Same with Batman, except he has to get through traffic. Also, look at how people love to yell "police brutality" even when it's a standard arrest. You think people are going to be alright with you swinging in a beating people half to death?

Vigilantism from regular citizen isn't taken lightly but suddenly the police are gonna be alright with a vigilante wielding high-tech weaponry?
