Only a handful of psychopaths really want to go to war.How did they have more to fight for back then?
By almost every measure our ancestors had less.
They lived shorter lives, earned less money, had fewer possessions.
And I bet the vast majority of them would have traded everything they did have to not be on one of those landing boats on D-Day.
Uuuuuhhhhhh
The draft hasn't really been abolished. Its just hasn't been used in a while. People still register for the draft today.Uuuuuhhhhhh
Trump has a long way to go before considered a warhawk like Obama.I will pull a Trump and get deferments. Then like most politicians that got deferments, I will be a total War Hawk, because hypocrisy is awesome.
WWW 3 whith nukes ending civilization? I would rather spend my last minutes with my family.World War in the thermonuclear age? I'd find somewhere nice to chill and toast the end of civilization. Not going to waste the last days fighting.
If the draft came back? I wouldn't wait for my number, I'll go fucking enlist myself so I can at least choose my branch, if not try and get into the portion of the branch I want.
To rip a quote away from Band of Brothers for why so many of them volunteered for the Airborne:
"We got paid $50 more, AND we knew we would be there with people that wanted to be there and not next to some English teacher that is shitting themselves."
I have a friend that is a single dad that said if he wasn't a widower with a toddler and a like 8 year old daughter he'd have never left the military in like 2010.
I can't remember if she's 8 or 7Like What's a "like 8 year old". Like really?
I had this discussion at work, and some jimmies got rustled, so it seemed like a good WR topic.
Simple question. Proxy war in Syria escalates, traditional lines are drawn. Bric nations vs EU, US.
Draft is reinstated.
Do you show up?
Me personally, my answer is fuck no.
Not because I am a coward, but because I refuse to go fight for a government that is not of the people, by the people, and for the people. You will never find me spilling blood for oligarch interests in the south China sea, ukraine, or Syria.
If you wouldn't, why?
If you would, why?

If the ' lines were drawn ' and you don't show up, and enough of you don't, it'll be the end of the US and you won't have the ability to ' not show up ' for anything ever again while you either live through occupation or more likely , are killed through thermonuclear destruction.
Because I just wouldn't do it.
My dad served in Vietnam, HIS dad was too young for WWI but still helped and helped US military in WWII domestically and was fucking born in Czechoslovakia. My mom had three brothers (mom is Japanese) in the Army and one died at Guadalcanal, Iwo, and Okinawa so it's very much a part of my family.
Its also a great way to see parts of the world I never would go to unless I was in. The other aspect is my best friends are all military or former military and being an only child from a family that isn't real close to our extended family I have to admit I am really jealous of that "family" feeling all my vet friends have with guys from their units.
Great way to see the world is through the military....hahahahaha. You know you can just travel and work as you go? I did it for years. You don't have to be in war to see the world.
