If I Bet 10,000 On A -175 Favorite, How Much Do I Win?

The American odds system is: Favorite: how much do I have to bet to win 100 $, and Underdog: if I bet 100 $ how much do I win.

Example with Miocic (-175) and Cormier (+165): You have to bet 175 $ on Miocic to win 100 $, and you win 165 $ if you place 100 $ on Cormier.

This means: if you have 100 $ to bet you'll get 157 $ back from the bookmaker by betting on Miocic, or 265 $ back by betting on Cormier.

The European system with decimal odds, 1.57 and 2.65 in this case, is way easier to use by the way. Good luck! :)

In Australia we do decimals.

Seems like the odds would be $1.53 so every $1 you put in you get 53c back.

10k would be 15300.
I dont gamble, but i do the fake $ sportsbook thing here and decimals just make sense.

I just cant see any other rationale for moneyline odds besides intentionally confusing gamblers. Look at the responses in this thread. 5 different answers so far lol

For somebody that doesnt know whats up, "-175" does not look very enticing, whereas "+400" does.

Its like they wanna trick people into betting on the underdog so they'll be more likely to lose.

Yea man I honestly tried to learn American way for the betting thread but in the end just gave up and said it my way.

Those dudes are pros but haha.

If you can't answer the question yourself OP then please don't bet 10000.

Literally any online bookie will tell you when you enter the betting amount into the slip.

= 10,000 / 1.75

plus your original 10,000 back

I'm still learning the intricacies of how betting odds work + I can't do math in my head. Somebody help me out.

How the fuck do you have that money to bet if you can’t calculate how much you will win?

You would win approximately 5714$ profit plus the original 10000.

So you would turn 10000 into 15714.

You don't understand how these companies make money. They don't want everyone betting on the underdog. They want even action on both sides. They make money off the commission paid on each bet, so when they get even action, they always win money. That's why the betting lines change.

yes decimals are more fair for the punter since they get that little bit more back in several cases compared to fractional odds or usa odds for instance in fractional odds 1/1 is evens and 11/10 is 110 profit for a 100 bet but for decimal betting the odds go from 2.0 2.02 2.04 2.06 2.08 2.10 as you can see there is 4 options inbetween for the decimals but for fraction betting it goes 2.00 to 2.1 and all the inbetween value is obsorbed by the bookmaker or casino
