would we have revised history and said "GSP was out of his prime, when he lost to Matt Serra?" According to some MMA fans, when a great fighter losses, that means he or she is "out of their prime."

Fortunately, GSP kept on fighting and proved that a great fighter can lose motivation to prepare properly, and begin to take opponents lightly. However, it doesn't necessarily make them "out of prime." They are not at their best, but the potential is still there. Two different concepts.

So, Matt Serra didn't beat the best GSP, on that night, but he still beat GSP in his prime.

no way that was matts night. nobody was stopping him. after the lytle fight he knew what had to be done

If he retired after that fight he would be a footnote in UFC history.

He didn't, came back better, and is arguably the GOAT.

And here we are. LOL

Another Franc thread

You do realize that GSP was 25 when that fight happened, right? Please prove an example of a 25 year old losing and people saying he was out of his prime. If you can't provide such an example, your whole thread is moot and pointless.

He'd have been the white Sokoudjou

Considering GSP was on an upward trajectort and just had the biggest win of his career no nobodg would say that.

If youre that insecure about fedor losing after his best years just say that, dont hide behind shitty analogies and comparisons and say that people revise losses to great fighters just because.

the matt serra on that night was the best version of any fighter ever in the history of life

George Saint Pierre's career did end after that fight only to be resurrected as Georges St. Pierre.

Nobody says 25 years old were out of their prime. Thread is stupid.

He'd be remembered by most as a mental midget.

Some people were suggesting Jordan Mein at 25 years old was finished. People were saying Rory MacDonald was "soulless" after the Wonderboy fight, because Robbie Lawler had "taken" it.

Some people believe Thomas Almeida at 26, has probably maxed his potential. Some people believe Doo Ho Choi has been "broken" , especially after the Stephens fight, and the mandatory South Korean military service will do him good.

Miles Jury was starting to get written off after the Charles Oliveira loss. Charles Oliveira himself, is being written off after his string of poor performances.

I have been told that prime is not about age, but accumulation of mileage, and thus, it varies from one fighter to the other. For example, Stipe at 34 is still in his prime, while Fedor at 33 was out of his prime.
