Penn wasn't "Motivated Penn" when Frankie beat him. Since losing to Frankie the first 2 times, Penn went 1-5-1 with his only win being against a long past his prime Hughes. Heck, Penn lost to Dennis Siver!

And while DC did "lose" to Jones twice, Jones had to cheat repeatedly to pull it off (roids, eye pokes, etc.) Meanwhile Frankie was busy losing twice to Benson Henderson and Aldo.

I liked Frankie's chances more before max got injured. Now Frankie will be even older and more shop worn if he gets past Ortega. Each day that passes increases Max's chances. Although, max injured his leg right? We'll see how well he comes back from an injury like that.

That's just stupid conjecture. Frankie broke Penn when it mattered most, just like he broke maynard.

I reaaaaally want to just type "DC" and be over with it; but every time I try, I think of him having a mental breakdown from just thinking of JBJ. Sure, one could say that Aldo is the same type of white whale to Frankie, but tbh, Frankie has overcome relative JBJ-level-obstacles before, and DC has not.

On paper it's pretty hard to pick a physically declining 36 year old featherweight over an incredible talent a decade his junior who improves with each outing. Would make Frankie's hypothetical win over Max all the more impressive, actually.

Still, I think Frankie has a better chance than Aldo did, as Max's TDD has been a weakpoint in the past. I also don't know what kind of pedigree Gracie Technics has in terms of wrestlers, it being based in hawaii makes it tricky. It's possible that Frankie manages to control him over five rounds. I think the likely outcome is Max is the one who finally manages to stop him though.

I honestly think Aldo would have won all the matches that Edgar won to cement his legacy. That said, Edgar is a great fighter with a good legacy

DC, though I think one does have to consider just how much more of a shark tank FW and LW are skill wise compared to HW and LHW.

And there´s always that big "what if" question.
If DFW hadn´t forced Aldo to vacate his belt before moving up to challenge Pettis at LW, would he have been a 2 division champ? Imo I think so. I think he had a good game to beat Pettis, and that 2014 Aldo won FOTY in that battle against Mendes.

Frankie has been a top fighter for a decade. Some major recency basis flying around in this thread.
DC has barely done anything at LHW. His accomplishments are paper thin.

Edgar by looooooooooooooong way. DC's opponents aren't that great. LHW div is weak as piss with only two decent fighters (JJ and DC) , an average workhorse (Gus) and a one dimensional slugger who gasses half way into round 2 (Rumble).

Frankie lost to 3 different guys. DC only lost to the best eva. Gotta go with DC if he beats Stipe. Stepping up and dethroning the current baddest man on the planet trumps anything that Frankie has or could do. Frankie would have to beat at least the welterweight champion for comparison. Stipe is much bigger than DC.

At this point DC could probably fight Penn at HW

DC only lost to Jon Jones who is perhaps the greatest fighter we have seen so far. Stipe is coming into this fight with 3 title defenses under his belt.

Edgar beating BJ Penn was great. You can argue BJ Penn was on a downturn, but I won't argue it this time around.

Max beat Jose Aldo who is a great fighter in himself BUT Jose Aldo was already beaten down by Conor and so was Max. Edgar fighting Conor and beating him at 145 would've been a better legacy. Obviously that won't happen.

DC beating Stipe would be a better legacy.

Wow. One couldn't beat Jones and the other couldn't beat Aldo. Very interesting question.

    I'd go with Edgar.

Wait- what??? Frankie isn't a one division champ [now]and took some beatings from Maynard and aldo.Lost to Benson and probably should've walked away from first fight with Penn with a loss ..... not to mention the plethora of close fights he's had.

    There is no comparison

Edgar for actually being the number 1 ranked guy in his divison.

DC got sonned by Jones twice. He has never been the best.
