Look it up. I read it in an interview a while back. Supposedly he would lift refrigerators up and down the stairs.

It's funny how things become legend. The true story is this. In Russia, when you win big tournaments you often get prizes. Cars, cash, apartments in Moscow, vacations, etc. So Karelian, a newly minted world champ, wins a refrigerator for his high rise apartment. And instead of waiting for the delivery guys to figure it out, he just carried the sombitch up the stairs himself. Pretty funny.
