By Renzo and Danaher, I know it's an old ass book, according to the wife it's back at my house right now... just wondering does it still hold up, like... is it useful in 2017?

I have that book, and it's a good read. Jiu Jitsu University is a much better training supplement, IMO. Still a good book, but reads like a college dissertation because it was written by Danaher and I think it was derived from his college papers.

Still my favourite Jiu Jitsu book (though the history needs a pinch of salt) more because of how well it articulates the principles rather than because it shows anything super-clever technically.

It is a good book. Don't worry too much about how they rank the techniques by belt.

saulos university is the best bjj book to get has alot of stuff not just the techniques just his in sites on things is the reason to buy

I think it's shyte. And it covers mostly nogi stuff. The history section at the beginning of the book has been proven to be untrue as well.

will always the #1 martial arts book for the section that reads something like:

Groin strikes
Many people believe that the groin strike is the ultimate technique...

(well OK, it's the #2 martial arts book of all time after whichever one that 'monkey steals peach' photo came from)

A lot saying this, what specifically is wrong?

He has Maeda as a koryu Jiu Jitsu guy and attributes the modern BJJ positional hierarchy to him. The correct answers are actually "Judo" and "Rolls" respectively, of course.

That book shaped my philosophy of Jiu Jitsu today so I'd say it's worth the money 17 dollars.

Yes all that.

He also has Fusen-Ryu as a specialised ground fighting style. But that's not true it's a very traditional jujitsu style. Tanabe was just very gifted on the ground.
