I was reading this news about what Vitor said

"I dedicated 2 months for this training camp. Stayed away from my family and who knows me knows how hard this is for me. I spent all necessary to have the best structure to achieve my goal. My team had an intense dedication even during the holidays. I did all my fight week obligations, cut the weight and made the fight weight. Unfortunately my opponent had a problem during his weight cut, I wish him a soon recovery. Now I just want to go back home and see my family. Thanks for all the support along this training camp.Love you all!!"

And I don't understand how these camps work. Why do you have to stay away from your family? I've heard this from other fighters, too.
Do you move to the country that you will fight because of the timezone?
What does the camp imply? You train with your coaches, I assume. Isn't that what you are supposed to do outside camps?

"For example 'I don't want to leave it in the hands of the judges' means 'I didn't train to go three rounds.' Uh, 'I'm surrounded with a new team in camp' means 'all my old friends abandoned me.' Uh, 'I need to go to training camp to be in seclusion' means 'My wife and kids are driving me nuts.' I don't understand why fighters don't just talk plainly."

Some international fighters have families at their homelands, like Brazil but come over to train at elite camps, mainly in America, to get better but they also train on their "off-season" at their home country gyms. Sometimes families are a distraction aswell. You're training to beat some dude, whose doing the same, you dont need the wife nagging at you and shit.

Some don't stay away from family and train not far from their house.. for some it's easier to not get distracted with kids and wife/gf, if they train else where. Also depending where you live at, you travel some where else to train with elite fighters/team mates/coach's. Time zone you just try get there couple days shake the jet lag. Some fighters the jet lag don't really bother them because they kind use to it. Training camp is to work on planing, study your opponent, movement their strength and weakness. Outside camp you're not really training fight someone, Learning new stuff, keep up with skill, have more fun with it, helping others get better as well.

Training camp is where you dodge USADA as much as possible, have people on watch if they come to the gym while you cycle on and off

Lets face it, thats what a training camp was always for

You live far away from the gym and cannot make a trip two to three times a day. Family is a distraction as wel.

I think it's bullshit that they have to be away from family. I don't think they train for more hours than the average full time worker works, and they go home to their families every day.

Training camp is dedicated hard work every day, 2-3x a day, the dieting, the focus, early to bed-early to rise, only hanging with training partners and coaches always gameplanning, and a lot of confidence building and words of encouragement.

You think the wifey gonna let a dude live like this at the crib? Hell no, plus that costs money so its supposed to be an investment.

Wife and kids can’t deal with a dude concentrating on beating the shit out of someone. Simple as that.
