I am not a trump fan, but given the choice of trump or GOP, I choose Trump

Ha, just noticed my gold belt. Nice!

2 years of golden posting, raining enlightenment on you poor hookers, finally recognized.

I can't let you off the hook that easy.

The conversation is between chamber of commerce Republicans or trump.

If their is no difference between the two, that sounds an awful lot like you are saying it is the illusion of choice.

No, it's saying that policymaking is a team sport. There's going to be very little difference between Republican/Democrat X and Y, but a big difference between the parties.

There is disagreement between all parties. Those disagreements could only be measured in degrees of seperation.

I concede that it is a larger degree of separation between R's and D's, then Trump and the GOP.

Will you concede that the argument of the illusion of choice, acknowledges degrees of seperation?

Yeah, can you imagine all that someone like Cruz, Rubio, or Bush could have gotten done with this house and senate on his side? It would be like running behind an Alabama line against a high school team.

The issue of not having a real policy extends beyond trump. Rubio for example would still not have a healthcare plan. Trump is literally a rubber stamp for anything they want. Congress is the ones fucking that up

In terms of policy, there is no difference. Trump doesn't know or care enough about any issue to stand against his party.

Trump's new tariffs on aluminum and steel were opposed by the majority of this party.

OK, one stupid policy that Trump supports that the rest of the party is split on.

You have relegated one of the three major pillars of the Trump platform to a "stupid policy". Ok.

The two other major pillars (tight immigration policy and reduced foreign intervention) also put him at major odds with the Republican Party.

As for your statement that the Party is split on trade: the only reason the Republican Party is split is because Trump single-handedly changed the Party. Conditions are ripe for realignment.

Trump is simply the Rs southern strategy coming home to roost. He is what the establishment would turn to when other tools no longer work. It's very similar to the appeal of fascism. In this case the establishment got more than they needed/wanted in response to tepid liberalism but one can only imagine what would happen if a real lefty came to threaten things. It's comical or maybe sad that anyone claiming class consciousness prefers him to anything.

I am by no means a Trump fan.

With that said, given the choice of 'Ryan, McConnell, Walker, Bush, ect.' AKA chamber of commerce Republicans, or Trump, I prefer Trump.

Am I wrong in that?

If I have come to the wrong conclusion, perhaps some enlightened WR poster could convince me otherwise.

Yeah I am with you on that

There is plenty of truth here, but @Jack V Savage does not want to admit it.

Let me assume the persona of a rightwing troll:

"Southern Strategy" . What is this Southern Strategy you speak of; it's just fake news!
The Dems were the party of the KKK
The Nazis were leftists because they were National Socialists.

This is how Independants feel. This is why Trump won. The money doesn't want people to know this. The money lies on the news and says Trump wins by "firing up the base," and that's an obvious lie.

While I am glad you like my post I am pretty sure that @Jack V Savage agrees that Trump is a southern strategy Frankenstein monster. I think where the disconnect may be is on the appeal vs what the actual policy diff turns out to be. So far it has been mostly establishment policy (health care failure and tax cuts). With perhaps the exception of less foreign involvement in some places, his nationalist rails are imo bad policy and hardly implemented.

Immigration if done will be consistent with at least the Southern Strategy republican lip service, the other two won't be.

He is the GOP with a whole bunch of crazy added to it. Where has he strayed from the GOP?

There's no separation between Trump and the GOP. When people say "the illusion of choice," they're not making the obvious statement that there's no real difference between different members of the same party; they're suggesting that the two parties are the same, which is very false.

You have relegated one of the three major pillars of the Trump platform to a "stupid policy". Ok.

Could be miscommunication there. Trump's tariffs are stupid and indefensible by anyone regardless of (plausible) ideology.

Ed: Also, "reduced foreign intervention" is something Trump talked about but certainly has not delivered (quite the opposite).
