He's arguably the best MMA wrestler in the history of the sport. How do you think he would do?
He'd refuse to wrestle for years, then come to take on a mediocre Brit.
Prime pre-USADA GSP
He has a good double leg and that's it.
A chain wrestler like Ben Askren would lock him down and turn him into spaghetti.
There you are !!! So, have you found any proof of GSP juicing ?
Like a HGH gut picture, a testimonial from Jose Canseco, ...
Hard to say because GSP wouldnt have his usual tools to set up takedowns. I bet he would do pretty well though.
He would have to learn to wrestle on the mat. His neutral shots would have to be set up different. Hand fighting will have to be picked up.
He could beat lower to mid level dudes on his athleticism alone. Now high level all americans would give him trouble.
If GSP was given a college career, I'd imagine he would do well and probably later All-American.
If GSP dedicated himself to wrestling from a young age I'm sure he would be a great international wrestler. But he wouldn't do well if he just switched over from MMA, two completely different sports.
mma wrestling is not the same as pure wrestling
no doubt GSP has the material to do it
lol at believing professional athletes are clean
Prime GSP would be a man against college kids. So that in itself gives him a good chance. He probably would have been able to go deep in the tourney. Maybe win it. But only if he trained pure wrestling for a dedicated year.
Not as good as 70 percent hendricks
if you threw him in the bulls ring right now or during his prime , i still believe he wouldnt do as well as a lot of fans might think.
1. he wont have anything to throw his oponent off (kicks/punches)
2. his octagon wrestling wouldnt be the same as mat wrestling.
3. he's mainly known for his double leg (any decent NCAA wrestlers gonna sprawl on him with the quickness)
i could keep going . now if he trained in this specific discipline then yeah he'd have a better chance but MMA GSP doesnt dominate.
GSPs MMA wrestling succes is partially based on his striking ability.
Take away strikes and put him against guys who live and breathe TDs and TDD in a wrestling match and he won't look as good.
Dude is still a freak athlete and will have some success but not MMA level.
I don't think you fully understand how good some of these "kids" are that wrestle ncaa D1.
J'den Cox and Kyle snyder are just kids according to you. Yet they won ncaa tournaments and medaled in the Olympics....where they had to wrestle "grown men". Some of these "kids" have been doing this one thing since they could walk and still train almost year round. Gsp was a freak and was great at using mma style wrestling....he wasn't a collegiate wrestler though.
Of course...100% of athletes are dirty.
I love when I hear that, shows me that tinfoil hat business is still strong.
Would GSP be lathered in Vaseline or no? Additional context is needed to answer properly.
It's amazing how many D1 wrestlers he's beaten.
