I believe that eventually both boxing and MMA (at least in its current form) will be outlawed as awareness and concern over CTE increases. I don't expect it to happen soon, but eventually I think boxing and any other sport that allows punches and kicks to the head will be outlawed.

I think it would be smart for The UFC to prepare for that possibility by starting a catch wrestling promotion. They could find out how much public demand there would be for professional catch wrestling. People are always going to be interested in watching combat sports and if sports that allow strikes to the head eventually become outlawed, then catch wrestling would be more likely to fill that demand than anything else.

I don't know since most of the "casuals" find any form of grapling "boring".

Fuck American MMA.....I actually think it will benefit fans if it goes to Japan/China/Europe etc.....They will treat MMA for what it is....A fucking Sport/Spectacle.

Imagine PRIDE 2.0..It would be amazing.

Also CTE? Dude everybody has known that boxing/MMA leads to brain damage, this isn't any news but yes, I could see the government/people becoming more and more pussified thus MMA could be in troubl...not any time soon tho, maybe in like 30 years...and even then with technology, you could probably heal fighters way better so it might be a non-issue.

Maybe in a world where sjws have taken over. Not to say that people now don't care, but not many are especially outspoken about it and I don't see that changing

This can very well be the future

There are studies that show soccer/football players might have way more brain damage by just heading the ball 50 times a week.

I don't think it will be banned, it might be after a few fatal incidents INSIDE the ring. But that shit for some reason almost never happens.

Which is weird imo.

With all the publicity drawn by former football players, the NFL would have to be dragged into this too.

It's not hard to see that they along with others who have a socialist agenda are taking over. I hate the way our country is going, getting more and more like a socialist country. People should have the right to choose to engage in a sport that has been proven to lead to CTE; that's exercising free will which is part of what living in a free country is all about. Sadly, this is no longer a free country. The government has steadily been interfering more and more in our lives in ways they have no business doing.

Would be ten times more exciting than what the product is these days.

I'd probably go back to buying PPV's.

WTF are you talking about?

The government literally build concentration camps for Japanese/Americans in World War 2...............This country has actually become more free......Not to mention the restrictions it put on minorities in the past were anti-freedom

You need to actually see history, kid.

Yup. CTE in combat sports is a known quantity. Hell CTE is rampant in NFL without punches knees kicks elbows ground n pound shitty refs ect and they still wont do shit about it. Make it like everything else that kills you: Make the risks known and if someone wants to take the risk it's their choice..

Also to @Blackjack , I've literally never seen a govt get involved in anything and result in making it better. ALSO ALSO We already had glorified catchwrestling that MOSTLY banned head strikes (closed fist) ... it was called Pancrase...05 account you should know that... you should also know that it no longer exists because it was swallowed into the realm of MMA.

The govt taking away our freedoms? you know that means trump right? this kinda rhetoric would make me think you're on his bandwagon...which would be fucking IRONIC considering how you're literally complaining about socialism taking over when the president continually sides with a communist country thats been the sworn enemy of American freedom since the end of WW2..... Besides what you're describing is fascism not some liberal socialist bullshit...

Relax sweetheart this is America our guns n beer aint goin nowhere.

It started well before Trump. He's just continuing to damage our country. For example, he has Jeff Sessions getting involved in making laws about what medications your doctor can prescribe for you, as if the government knows your condition and needs better than your own doctor. Jeff Sessions wasn't the first guy to do that but he's continuing it. That kind of government interference in how your doctor can prescribe medication for you was going on when Obama was President. Unfortunately it's just getting worse. Marijuana has been shown to help with some types of pain, but Sessions wants to try to keep any of us from having the freedom to get a medical prescription for marijuana.

You're absolutely right about there hasn't ever been anything that got better when the government got involved in it.

As for Pancrase, I saw some of that but as far as I know it was only in Japan. I don't think Pancrase ever held any of their cards in the USA. I'm not sure how much of the general populace here even knew it existed since their marketing/advertisement was minimal. Also, at the time, Pancrase was competing against MMA. If MMA were to be outlawed, something like Pancrase might do well if it were the closest thing to MMA still available to the public.

Okay I see you I see you. I'd tend to agree with this sentiment on some topics no doubt, It's a fucking insane mess our Nation is in right now. Absolutely unprecedented levels of incompetence and corruption, I honestly think the outlook is rough too but rampant socialism isn't what I'm concerned about. More so worried about a country that's rules and laws are largely determined by billion+ dollar corporations that have more political pull than ever because of our "business man and chief". I'm no eco-warrior but when you look at the subsequent dismantling of the EPA which has been head by coal lobbyists and their 'tear it all down' agenda and what thats doing to the groundwater of every major city in america...and now they're trying to remove the coal ash regulations from the last administration? The trade war that's only been impacting American industry? The blatant Putin dick sucking and total disregard for what every major American intelligence agency had to say? The blatant disrespect and threats to NATO and the UN? The constant verbal attacks on our own allies? It's destabilizing world politics not just American. These are long lasting problems that wont change simply with a different president.

I think if anything we're entertaining the notion of becoming a country that destroys it's own natural resources, our own free trade, attacks it's own population thru draconian legislation, and eventually leads to weakening ourselves as THE global super power. I don't think liberal socialism is the doomsday scenario to worry about personally. I think Russia China and Iran have fking hard ons right now watching this shit play out. As far as effective NATURAL substances that Big Pharma can't have sole control over like Marijuana and CBD oils? That comes down to two things. 1. Lobbying. weed was banned by lobbyists back in the day and will remain banned by lobbyists. Pour millions of dollars into a politicians pockets and you seem to get legislation pretty quick. Big Pharma cant own THC or CBD out right, like they can with every other synthetic chemical they produce. Because it's obviously a natural substance. Now they COULD control some of their own strains like monsanto does with soybeans corn ect.. BUT they wouldnt be able to monopolize the market with it unless it was an amazing product that was widely accepted by medical and recreational users.

2. is the next big shitshow on the horizon. Radical religious right, We all see what happens in Islamic countries where the radical religious right tends to be the goal tenders for what is and ISN'T allowed. When mixed with politics we see the shitshow it becomes. Jeff Sessions the nasty lil kiebler elf that he is feels like he has some divine right dictated from a bible he only read cliff notes of to determine what is and isn't morally acceptable. We see this with his stance on pot, abortion, immigration ect ect. What's one thing we always see in ailing or troubled countries? the swift and immediate rise of radical religious right, and we're seeing that more and more nowadays.

I would agree that there's a clear danger as we move forward as Americans, but I don't think it's coming from the spayed and neutered cavern of no hoper alt left socialists.. It's right here in our face as the radical right. To really have balance and justice in a country IMO you gotta ride somewhere right down the middle and we're collectively careening down a slippery slope of one extreme or another.

I think if MMA got outlawed it would just die. Casuals would goto WWE fight fans would goto Boxing or niche market BJJ tournaments/kickboxing ect. I don't think the general public has a legitimate appreciation or understanding of combat sports I think they just like the spectacle of some goon talking shit and knocking out some other dude with back tats. Lowest common denominator will goto some other shitshow like WWE. Especially with the next generation of no hope glued to their cellphones goldfish attention span having millennials.. fights are just a few years away from being 5second instagram memes lol (i say that as a younger dude myself)

I don't think it will affect it at all besides possibly longer suspensions for concussions. The difference between combat sports and contact sports like football is most people expect there to be some damage or lasting effects from the punishment of combat sports. Almost everybody that has seen boxing knows people get punch drunk.

The problem with the NFL was they were trying to cover up and lie about the damaging effects. Lots of people didn't know about these problems, as silly as it sounds nowadays.
