How was Pinochet different from Castro?

Obama was president not Hillary.

Ok?? Obama was Hillary's boss and as such has his tacit approval.

In any case, this isn't about which individual OKs what. It's about the actions of the US government as a whole and in the case of Honduras, there's plenty of evidence that suggests the US had a role in it.

Also Chile has one of the largest proven copper reserves and the nationalization of copper was so popular it was kept even under Pinochet.

That's because it pays for the military. I believe it's written in their constitution- a certain percentage of the mining.

Also, Pinochet taught Chileans that they had to work hard to get ahead. He also paved the way to their current free market economy which has thrived. He was also need to end the chaos caused by Allende.

Pinochet also ended a lot of corruption and really cleaned up the military and police force. @Rod1 Mexico should be praying for a Pinochet to come and save it.

The actions of the US government was not recognizing the coup, kicking them out of the OAS and removing economic aid from the country.

1.- Pinochet didnt taught shit, he was Allende's confident, he was one of the last guys to turn on him.

2.- His economic policies were disastrous culminating with the 1982 crisis.

3.- Pinochet stashed millions in foreign bank accounts, ending corruption, give me a fucking break.

His only saving grace is that communists would had done worse, and thats pretty much it.

The huge corruption is always present, I'm taking about the everyday things. Try to bribe a cop, or someone at the registro civil- unlike Mexico, you can't.

He did teach them that the harder they work, the more they can make. Allende taught people to take handouts, he'd brain washed people into thinking that money would fall from the sky. Pinochet showed them they had to work for it.

He did what needed to be done to get the country on the right track, then be stepped down. For as many people who complain about him, there are others who recognize his importance. What Chile is today is due in large to Pinochet.

No, its not normal for democratic world leaders to steal millions and stash them away, thats what corrupt dictators do.

When did he taught them that? during the 1982 crisis when tons lots their meagre savings? or when he let sick people die on the streets and unable to work because privatized healthcare.

No he didnt, he tried an experiment which failed and then became your regular dictator, the reason why he stepped down was because it was untenable for him to continue in power.

Most of the Chilean economic and social progress was done in the 90s under a democratic president.

Well, I disagree and think that it is very commonplace for leaders to stay away money. What about the other part that I said. Do you really think Mexico is less corrupt?

The cops have been clean since the time of Pinochet. Almost no organized crime, no major drugs gangs. Petty theft was about the worst you'd have had to deal with up until now.

1982, yawn, it was bad all over, not just in Chile and yes, mistakes were made.
Letting that go, focus on the fact that Pinochet brought in free market to Chile and help to form a new capitalist culture which promotes individual efforts. During Allende's time, he preached communism and people believed that the government would provide them with everything they needed.

You keep brining up 1982 but you don't want to talk about la marcha de ollas vacías. That was directly a result of Allende's horrible policies that left people without food. The country was near civil war and without Pinochet taking over, the death toll could have ended even higher.

He said "Tratamos de hacer de Chile un país de propietarios y no de proletarios". He wanted his people to improve.

You're obviously convinced but you should really look at alternative sources for your information. I lived 15 years in Chile and when I got there, just like you, I knew that Pinochet was a horrible monster. After all the taking and reading and getting to know and understand the culture, I can assure you that Chile would be much worse off today if it weren't for Pinochet.

His human rights record is atrocious but the other things he did for Chile were very positive.

“Prácticamente limpiamos de marxistas la nación”
Pinochet created the conditions for economic growth, GDP doesn't tell the whole history. He gave independency to the Central Bank, privatized inefficient public companies that only served as a way to employ marxists and killed every last one of them, giving them a blow they will never recover from, making it impossible for future communists to take over like they did in Venezuela, Bolivia and Nicaragua.

Moreover, without him it's likely Allende would have kept power until his death and destroyed the country completely.
True, in large part Allende faced crisis due to American opposition, but Allende lived in the real world and should have known better than support communism against the US. What these small country communists did is akin to a small kid picking a fight with a big schoolyard bully to protect other children and getting beat up. Heroic, but extremely dumb.
Most importantly, Pinochet accepted, reluctantly, to step down, while Castro doubled down on communism.

He didnt killed every last one of them and the central bank independency was short-lived, also to clean the country of marxists he didnt needed 15 years, he tried to implement reforms by force, failed took the country to crisis and then realizing that he would probably face repercussions of his crimes tried to cling to power and failed.

Pinochet was never as entrenched as Castro because he rose to power through betrayal, Castro gained power through a revolution and promptly killed everyone who could put some degree of opposition.

When the only valid defense against Pinochet is "Well the communists were worse" one gets to realize how badly of a ruler he was.
