How is fedor still “big game”

Cause he's a huge name. Same reason guys wanted to fight Tyson late in his career. Easier fight than a young, hungry up and comer. Not to mention the name recognition that fighter would get.

Fedor may not be the same fighter he used to be but he is still dangerous. He still has a ton of power and good speed. He has the ability to hurt or submit damn near any heavyweight or light heavyweight in the world right now. But he is also way more vulnerable then he every has been. There are a lot of questions about how much punishment he can absorb.

Within the context of the article I think you should consider that Frank Mir is the one that is claiming that fighting Fedor is "big game". This is a dangerous fight for Mir. Mir is nearly 40 has had a 2 year layoff and has only won 2 of his last 8 fights. It is also a bit of an ego thing on Mir's part. Many fighters want to fight the best of their era even if it is at the end of their career. There are likely a lot of boxers that took pride in the fact that they got in the ring with Mike Tyson, that they got the opportunity to test themselves against him. Mir has fought all the big names of his era but he still hasn't had the chance to fight Fedor. For Mir, fighting Fedor even if it is at the end of his career is still worth it. Mir has wanted to fight Fedor for a long time and everytime he was rumored to sign with the UFC Mir wanted his chance. For Mir this is the big name fighter he has wanted to fight for his whole career.

Big name, not big game.
