How have your opinions of BJJ changed over the years?

My views have changed. I used to think it was the ultimate street ready martial art. Now I see it as a great system of ground fighting. I now see it as incomplete. I also understand now the importance of training and physical fitness. It's not plug and play. It takes work to get good. And even then it's still lacking.

It's still a damn good martial art that everyone who cares about self defense should learn. It's just not as invincible as I once thought.
 
I used to think competitive BJJ emphasized takedowns and top control. Boy was I wrong!
 
it was my first love, probably like a lot of people after watching the early UFCs (on dvd in the 2000s). i like it and boxing/mma about equally now. and for sure BJJ is still one of the pillars of mma/self defense knowledge
