Heading into the final stretch of the holiday season, I was wondering how gamers felt about 2017. Gamers seem to have been highly satisfied with 2015 and 2016 after being ostensibly disappointed with 2014. The biggest surprise this year has been the smash success of the Nintendo Switch, not just a novelty item in a year without competition, but also in the game department (where the Wii U was always lacking, and what ultimately doomed the console, most likely). The Switch owns 5 of the Top 20 games on Metacritic for the year so far; including the hands down most celebrated title of the year in Breath of the Wild. Another thing that caught me off-guard, despite that I'm aware of how Microsoft is pivoting its XB1 strategy by dissolving the wall between its exclusives and the PC platform, was how poorly its showing has been in 2017 across the board-- not just for these increasingly rare exclusives. For example, VGChartz only tracks physical sales, but Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands is the bestselling title in 2017 on the platform, and yet it's only #55 overall They only have four games published in 2017 in the platform's bestselling 100: http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=&publisher=&platform=XOne&genre=&minSales=0&results=200 Multiplatform Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Mass Effect: Andromeda Injustice 2 Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare For Honor Nier: Automata Destiny 2 LEGO Worlds Final Fantasy XVI: Stormblood ARK: Survival Evolved Sniper Elite 4 Black Desert Online DIRT 4 Tekken 7 Sonic Mania Night in the Woods Lone Echo The Surge Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove Sony Playstation 4 Horizon: Zero Dawn Persona 5 Nioh F1 2017 MLB: The Show 2017 Crash Bandicoot N.
