How do atheists feel about Christmas?

LOL
I've got a whole bag of shh right here with your name on it

i love the celebration of commercialism

Pagans had claims to the date and rituals first -- but they dont whine about cultural appropriation or the stealing of a tradition

we say pass the wine and cut me another slice of the roast beast.

They also believed in gods or God. Unlike atheist scum.

Aww, muffin'

Does people not believing in jeebus hurt your delicate sensibilities?

Nah, I don't give a shit what others believe or don't believe. I just think atheists who use paganism as their argument are fucking stupid. You don't even realize the irony.

i believe in nature (most pagans had a spinoza philosophy).... and superman; now i can claim winter solstice celebration rights.

But you guys are still welcome to steal the customs and dates for your ghost baby's birthday, enjoy!

I never liked Christmas much growing up. Didn't hate it, but didn't care. My family was Christian, but my dad was a crusty old cynical type who refused to favor one day above another, and I inherited that from him.

Since I've had kids though it's become something i look forward to. Holidays with little people are so much fun.

i wouldnt say im atheist, but broadly speaking i enjoy it.

however, religious people need an excuse to be nice to each other? how many of them are really cunts even through xmas? lonely people and suicides go through the roof. it feels like it last forever and then its over too soon. commercialism over what is basically a religious festival stolen from the pagans? would jesus have any fucking idea wtf was going on if he came back? santa claus? white babies? coca cola? ipads?

i think over all its a cool festival, but very stressful, try hard and commercial. massively over bearing.

still great though.

First Christmas you spend alone is pretty rough, to be honest.

I enjoy it because it's time assigned to spend with the family and giving is awesome!

A little bit too marketed but w/e.

I love it. Time off with my family. Singing Christmas carols. Seeing my daughters' face light up for Santa, taking them out to cut down the tree, even freezing my ass off putting up lights all over the god damn house.

We will probably even go to a church Christmas eve out of tradition. I teach my children about the different stories, including the birth of Jesus, the lights of Hanukkah, Dickens's version of Christmas, Santa, etc. I tell them that I don't believe any of it is actually true, but that they can believe what they want. My oldest was interested in Christianity a bit last year after going to a camp with a friend. I was a believer once, and figure they will find their own way, whatever that may be, with my supportive guidance.

The vast majority of Christmas tradition is the product of Madison Avenue advertising executives and not religious observance.

You totally don't care, but they're definitely stupid fucking scum. Histrionic pussy.

I've not read the whole thread, as I'm on the phone and I can' t be bothered.

'Christmas' is a pre-historic celebration that has nothing to do with Jesus.
The sun is rising in the northern hemisphere.

You're god damn right it is, and it's bringing presents and fucking eggnog with it.

I've never tried eggnog but it does sound gross, so I will try it out one day

Love christmas. Love my family and friends love the hustle and production of it, the food and booze , the presents , trying to find wacky christmas songs and how excited all the kids get.

WHats not to love about chirstmas ?

The only Family that I enjoy spending any time with are my wife and kids. So I like it for them. I do not enjoy the driving around to see people that I can barely tolerate, or having them into my home.
That being said, Christmas is for the kids, and mine are 3 and 6, so it's still very important, and my wife is half elf or something.
