How do atheists feel about Christmas?

i love the celebration of commercialism

Pagans had claims to the date and rituals first -- but they dont whine about cultural appropriation or the stealing of a tradition

we say pass the wine and cut me another slice of the roast beast.
This post has made my heart grow three sizes

I love it. Family celebration, great food, everyone being in a generally happier mood. Now that I have a daughter I'm looking forward to it even more.
Religion aside, I absolutely love the season--Christmas movies, Christmas music, Christmas lights and decorations, egg nog, Elf on the Shelf for my kids, Santa Claus for the kids, gifts, family, lots of parties, good food...

Hands down, the most wonderful time of the year.

Eggnog is my true weakness. It's survivability chances are about as good as a Christian's in an ISIS stronghold.

I wish they sold it all year.

I like leave my glass out for a little bit to let it come to just about room temperature.

Best eva. EVA.

For myself it has less to do with Christmas itself and more to do with getting time to spend with family I'd otherwise not see the remainder of the year.

The one thing I do find hilarious is the so called "war on Christmas".

11 months and she's wonderful. Thanks for asking man.

Congratulations! I don't think you mentioned it in a thread I read. Appreciate every moment because it is crazy how fast the years go by.

And as for the thread, I'm a non-believer, and this is my favorite time of year.

Thanks dude. And I'm the same way about Christmas.

It's fine, it's fun, just keep public money out of promoting Christianity. If you want to make space for jeebus, you have to make space for everyone. Them's the rules.

Shut the fuck up.

I love it. Decorations, songs, presents, figuring out what presents people will like, awkward but still fun family gatherings and the general atmosphere. There's something good about gathering a bunch of people and celebrating something.

I'm totally cool with the religious aspects, I say Merry Christmas and always laugh at the people who make that an issue, though their numbers are far overblown.

The fact that is at this point little more than a thinly disguised excuse to make people drive themselves into debt every winter is my main complaint. I'd actually be fine with it being a holiday only Christians celebrated, and everything commercial were cut out. But then the economy would collapse.

I also think the idea (and lie) that we tell our kids regarding a magic obese man who brings free presents every year (except to the poor and Jewish kids) is a poor lesson to teach our children. Maybe teach them that mom and dad busted their ass so you can have a new 3DS after the last one got dropped in the toilet.

I dunno man, the thin veneer of cheer over the masses of misery bum me out.

Just wondering...

Most of them celebrate it and enjoy it. The only difference between a normal Atheist celebrating Christmas and a Christian celebrating is that one goes to Church. The other doesn't.

People need to realize that Freedom from Religion Foundation and American Atheists speak for Atheists like Westboro Baptists speak for all Christians. Sure some will agree with them, but they don't speak for the vast majority of them.
