How come no one tries to take Khabib down?

I'm sure his defensive wrestling is fine. But no one has ever tried to throw him off his game.
Khabib fights are usually him chasing and his opponent near the fence looking to counter or defend the take down.
No one has tried beating him at his own game and catching him off guard. All of his opponents have pretty much reacted the same to him.

Name one elite BJJ practitioner in that weight class who is a legitimate title contender?

    There's your answer.

He's been taken down a few times that I've seen. He instantly subbed a couple of them. I'm a bit busy right now but maybe someone can dig out a video or two?

I’d like to see him vs more pure BJJ guys. Funny how styles make fights. That’s not something I say about just about any other champion except Khabib. RDA, Tavares, and Tibau count but they aren’t big submission guys.

Granted there aren’t many world level BJJ guys at LW. Ferguson may actually be the best style fight

Because this is what happens when you try.

And let's say you somehow get on top. The only two times that has occurred, this has happened:

Tony is the only real threat of his back for Khabib. And taking Khabib down may backfire horribly.

The best grapplers in the division are Kevin Lee and Tony Ferguson, he hasn't fought either of them yet.

Tony is wildly unlikely to attempt a take down, but very likely to go after subs and attacks from guard. Lee is likely to be willing to attempt a take down, especially catching him off guard.

MJ, Barboza and Conor are the worst grapplers in the division. Khabib gave MJ his 7th career submission loss, then a featherweight gave him his 8th a short time after.

I'm talking about actually shooting for the TD not a clinch tie up that gives Khabib leverage. Gus vs. Jones is a good example of a fighter surprising a wrestler without playing his game. I know nobody is going to out wrestle Khabib especially in the clinch. What I'm talking about is a surprise shot.

Gleison tibau did, couldn't take him down but I thought won on points. And then got robbed in the decision right after.

Dude trains with elite wrestlers I’m sure he’s comfortable off his back.

He did shoot a double, then transitioned to a single. Both failed and this was the result.

I dont think Tony really has anything for Khabib either. A lot of the fight would be Khabib taking down Tony and pressuring him to the point of nullifying most of Tony’s offense from his back. There would probably be several standups each round due to neither fighter being able to open up.

It would probably be a pretty boring fight because Khabib will not want to play rock em sock em robots with Tony.

Tibau took him down easily a couple time but could not maintain control, same with Trujillo.

It will take a grappler on the level of Kevin Lee or above, which he has yet to fight.
