We got Conor vs. Khabib headlining, but so far, all the other announced fights are pretty mediocre and unlikely to pull in casuals. Even if Black Beast vs. Volkov is finalized, that can't be the co-main, can it?

Based on what has been announced so far, excluding the main event, UFC 230 seems to have much better fights than 229 -- Romero, Costa, Souza, Adesanya, Diaz and Poirier.

229 obviously breaks 1 million PPV buys with Conor, but it needs some barn burners or Just Bleed fighters, or other big names to propel it past 1.6 million or even close to 2 million.

Diaz v. Dustin would have been good on 229, but smart move by the UFC putting it on 230 cause Diaz just wanted that red panty night with PPV buys generated by Conor. He knows 230 will do less than 400k buys especially since it will follow 229.

What's your ideal co-main for 229?

Wmma fight please Dana

I think this was already discussed at length and the answer was pretty obvious. The crowd that Conor brings in on top of your regular MMA fans does not care about MMA as a whole, they care about Conor. Thus, the only fight that matters is Khabib vs Conor.

If anything, they may be wise to stock the rest of the card with hardcore-friendly matchups in order to make it a must-buy event for the kind of fans who buy 20 PPVs per year. Conor vs. Khabib is already going to grab all the ones who buy two PPVs per year.

I find it hard to believe that a fan who buys 20 PPVs per year would not buy this PPV and opt for buying some other PPV instead. I mean, if a person is going to buy 20 PPVs, then why would he skip this one? Khabib vs Conor is a huge fight with truckloads of hype behind it regardless of whether some people consider Khabib a paper champ or not.

Conor fighting is all that is needed to sell PPVs. From a business perspective, they should save good matchups for other cards that need all the help they can get.

People keep posting this bullshit conor will not fight with anybody else that wants a part of the ppv money why because conor will sell 1mill ppv on his own or more... He dont wanna pay the rest of the roster. All the great new fighters most are asking for ppv buys and most are already scheduled and on cards get over it. Id love for zabit to be here but it aint happenin

They should use it as an opportunity to promote their product. Casuals will be tuning in for Conor but if they see some good fights leading up to it they might become more regular fans. Bad decision not to stack it as far more eyes will be on it than usual.

The comain doesn't matter unless it's another draw. A GSP fight, the return of Jones, etc.

That's the plan. The co-main is Lewis/Volkov, they don't need to stack it with any other fights to add to the sales of it, it's going to have monster numbers even if they put bad matchups on the rest of it.

229 won't break 1.7 and the second Diaz fight will do better. Nobody even knows Khabib, my girl knows who Diaz is, she has no idea who Khabib Nurmagamedov is.

Too often these fights fall apart due to injury ,Khabib has dropped out og fights in the past. Does Lewis / Volkov headline a PPV in that event? I think not.
They need a decent co-main to avoid having to cancel the event if the main events dissolves.

It can’t break the record in this age of streaming and KO’s being posted on social media almost instaneously.

It’s like how pitchers in baseball can no longer reach 30 wins a season or 300 wins on a career. Or how nobody scores 150 points in a basketball game anymore.

You have to adjust what success means and find alternative revenue streams which WME has done.

It will have a great shot without a big co-main

the whole ufc 299 should be trash since sherdog says conot is all you need to sell the biggest fight in ufc history.

derick lewis being in the co main event shows the ufc doesn't need to put 3 title fights on ufc 229 cause of conor.

but does she know who conor is? if so tht all that matters
