Hooray For Equality!!!! 80% of People in Venezuela Are Now Living In Poverty

Tell that to the money changers in the temple. Jesus filled the room up with uppercuts and the money changers hauled ass.

He was not condemning money changing, he was condemning the act being done in a holy temple.

I believe Jesus whipped them with a cord.

Do you even understand the point you're trying to make? First you tried to blame Venezuela's situation entirely on the other countries, which I addressed. Now you're trying to claim it had nothing to do with socialism. Please stop debating like a coward.

That's because history has proven time and time again that capitalism is the superior system when taking into account human nature. No economic system is perfect but its certainly not socialism, communism or whatever else these idiots claim to support. This guy has already blamed his ideal system not working on two different things instead of admitting it will never be as successful as capitalism. They have to debate like cowards because human history has shown otherwise.

All functional countries in the world have mixed economies.

Yes I know there is no absolute free market system, what's your point

So why are people using a Venezuela as an example against anything except what fucked up Venezuela like price controls, expropiation and outright sacking of sovereign wealth?

Has Bernie Sanders come forward with price controls or something like that?

I don't care about Venezuela or Bernie Sanders, my comment is that due to human nature, capitalism is the most successful economic system. The others that other posters are arguing for can never be achieved because of human nature

Capitalism is just a word, trying to englobe the complexity of the modern economic status quo on simple words which were invented centuries ago during a time the world was quite different is ridiculous.

Specially considering that Venezuela still allows for private ownership and the accumulation of capital therefore it can still be called a "capitalist" country.

Without fail, people that are convinced they are marginalized by politicians focus on what others have, not what they want. MLK was a successful and legitimate leader because he was genuine. He identified the problems, set goals, and got people to work together to achieve something. The false prophets of today look to use their followers to take away, and will of course levy them nothing in return for their service.

Alright I'm not going to talk semantics about what parts may or may not be capitalistic in nature. Not being a jerk, just not going to get into nitpicking

Im pretty sure Bernie never said he wanted to seize ford plants and private property and that there is a world of difference between what bernie and the Scandinavian countries are doing and believe in vs what Venezuela did but that wouldnt be as fun to jerk off to

National healthcare does not Venezuela create gentlemen
Bernie is not on my list of things to jerk off to.

Its not semantics.

When people say "capitalism is the only system that works" they arent actually pinpointing to anything in particular isnt? any country in the world can be either capitalist or socialists depending on whether you want to show the success of ill defined ideologies to begin with.

Case in point China and Venezuela.

Communism doesn't work. My parents escaped Vietnam in 1981, 6 years after the end of Vietnam War. My parents said before the communist took control of South Vietnam in 1975, everybody in South Vietnam had plenty of food to eat. After 1975 the whole country almost starved to death.

The majority of people in Venezuela were living in poverty before Chavez. Illiteracy was rampant. If it weren't for U.S. sanctions, U.S. sabotage of Venezuelan resources via its vile oil cartel, the Bolivarian Revolution would be in a much healthier state.

Except they haven't maintained their oil rigs so their production in down to a low where they could produce enough even if we had high oil prices

"As a member of OPEC, Venezuela has committed to OPEC’s current production quotas, and since the start of 2017 it has been limited to producing an average of 1.972 barrels of oil per day (called its allocation number). As recently as the beginning of the year, Venezuela was capable of producing in excess of this limit, and it did so for the first two months. However, it seems that since March Venezuela has not been able to produce even at its OPEC allocation number . Venezuelan oil production is at a 27 year low.

Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves in the world, but much of that oil is difficult to access. Furthermore, Venezuela has failed to maintain its facilities well and the finances of the government and the national oil company, PDVSA, are so abysmal that they cannot afford to fully run production. A country rich with energy resources has problems powering its own infrastructure."

Bernie is a Social Democrat of the European variety. He's not a Socialist by any stretch of the word.

Bernie is a full blown socialist but he knows that's not popular so he pitches it as a softer version

He said bread lines (aka gov distribution of food) are a good thing and lived on a communist commune until he got kicked out for not working

Anything you can make a profit at should be private. Anything you can’t make money at should be not for profit. Anything that can’t make a profit and could infiringe on the public’s safety should be government.

Lol Vietnam hasn't collapsed, in fact its thriving right now. Same thing goes for China and now Xi is rolling back the small liberal reforms in his country and is going to go back to more orthodox Chinese communism. Where's Chinas collapse at? I'll help you out...nowhere in sight.

Vietnam is only thriving now because they toned down the communism and allowed American investment in the 90s. they had starvation levels of poverty, then the government freed up the economy and opened the country for foreign tourism and investment. Their economic success is proof of the failure of Marxism in relation to capitalism

I've been to Vietnam twice in the past 12 months alone and almost single person told me that they don't have bad blood from the war anymore because now their prospering from our investments and all of them want to learn English to deal with Americans

They started the transition in 1990 and

Any WR thread with the word socialism in it turns completely asinine in no time.
