I'm probably guilty too, but let's reflect, please.

The newest thing in marketing, is online data analysis. See what people are talking about, looking at, spending their money on, listening to, and do it all online with ease. These firms are looking at places like this, and simply seeing what gets the most views, clicks and comments. It's being done with minimal AI that's compiling lists of topics/words/names that produce the most views/clicks. These are then interpreted and used by marketing firms to give personalities(aka fighters) a bigger online presence. More presence, more opportunities to make money.

And guess what? We fucking suck.

DC/Stipe and the 226 card in general, are epic. Great super fight, great card, just great MMA. And yet, t's a fucking whisper around here.

Colby and Woodley aren't even booked to fight yet, and all they had to do was say "Trump" and "racism" out-loud to start producing 10+ page threads.

Guess what this is gonna result in? More twitter wars based on using buzzwords to attract clicks, and less epic fights that are based on an abundance of merit. If we're talking about CM Punk more than we're talking about Mighty Mouse, guess who's gonna be pushed more? If we like guys like Cowboy Cerrone way more than we like WMMA, what should we be talking about to see more of one than the other?

We're literally digging our own grave right now and not realizing it. We're like a year away from cards with youtubers and instagram models on it, and nobody seems to even be noticing. Come on guys. Let's remember we're MMA fans, not talking fans. We're not insult fans. We're fans of fucking combat. Physicality.

We're fans of what happens when the talking stops. We really gotta stop telling them we're more interested in the words, because it's ruining our sport.

You don't have nearly as much influence as you think you do.

You're right. I have none.. WE have it all. We're the ones buying this shit, and as long as we tell them what WE want together, we'll get it sold to us.

Getting it yet?

EDIT: @MrDaneBrass I don't think you realize man: it's 2018. Everyone is online. 90% of the people using this site, are using social media and other sites as well. Every bit of info in every corner is being analyzed and used. To put it simply: we're all casuals now.

The casuals are the ones buying it in greater numbers.

Was following until the we fucking suck part... I don't really get what you're getting at? We aren't feeding the garbage social media machines to help perpetuate fighters' popularity and to help them make a living. We just want to see them fight, at a high level, great fighting.

Jake Paul vs Logan Paul. Winner faces pewdiepie. book it Dana.

Factually incorrect, if all they had was casuals, they'd be out of money and wouldn't sell anything other than fights, ever. This sport gets by a large number of fans who are dwindling because when they come around places like this, there's a 10 page thread about CM Punk, a 20 page thread about what two guys NOT booked to fight are saying, and the rest is usually complaints and "is prime ____ GOAT?!"

And all it's doing is perpetuating itself. DC/Stipe is probably not gonna draw as many eyes as two youtubers fighting in the UK this summer. What do you think that's gonna result it? Nothing but a push to find more chumps who draw clicks than actual champions who excel at their sport.

Come on guys we've gotta do better.

Just by virtue of being here, we are hard core fans. Your argument is directed more at casuals, who need loud noises to be interested in an mma fight. Unfortunately the ufc is pretty bad at promotion and hasn't been able to grow the hard core market at all.

Which is why they're in the situation now, where they need self made superstars to magically appear and save them every few years.

Go to your local sports bar on a fight night and talk to people who go there to watch and spend money and find out just how many are casuals...

He's saying that the way we gravitate towards certain content on here is going to lead the guys in the offices to push more of it down our throats. If we pay attention (with our views and clicks) then we are endorsing the end of our sport as we know it.

I agree.

fuck you ts.

you are ruining the sport.

im trying to Make UFC Great Again.

Go to your local sports bar on a fight night and talk to people who go there to watch and spend money and find out just how many are casuals...

Go ask every person who's ever bought UFC brand merchandise, tickets to a show, or a PPV at their house, how casual they are.

This "go to your local bar" argument is completely ignorant to the economics of the sport. Chip in fight nights at local bars aren't driving the business, trust me. These "casuals" you speak of are the public at large who make all big things big. Like the movie Black Panther. They goes cause other people are going. What sustains the sport is who's around when those people aren't.

It's close to impossible to mobilize people and make them act in a certain way without providing economic incentives. It's UFC's (or other MMA orgs) mission to adapt, not ours to save it.

How do I pin the gripes of this forum on casuals? And we can't pretend we're isolated anymore, we're not. Everyone is online. Major opinions here and reflecting major opinions elsewhere.

Look at the first page. WE'RE the ones letting Colby and Woodley's bullshit take precedent over the biggest fight in ages. WE'RE the ones letting CM Punk threads go 12 pages longer than threads about prospects like Israel Adesanya.

And when the "casuals" aren't around buying McGregor cards, the people coming up with the next way to attract them, look to us. They're gonna see Colby, Woodley and Racism attracting 100x the clicks, views and comments as DC vs Stipe.

And all that's gonna lead to is more and more. It's like technology with exponential returns, only we're going in the opposite direction by enjoying stupid shit.

The vast majority off MMA fans are casuals. No way around it.

Sit back, and enjoy the show. Or start your own MMA org and do things your way.
