...is one of the single greatest displays of MMA grappling ever recorded. Some of the most fluid, high-level back & forth wrestling exchanges in the history of the sport. Seriously, I've watched this match three times in a row today & I always find something new to marvel over. It is pure eye candy. Looks like choreography.

This fight has always been one of the most underrated matches in the history of the sport. I'm not exactly sure why either. Perhaps because there was a good deal of hype leading up to it & wound up being more or less a pure wrestling match, I dunno.

Why do people think this fight gets so underrated?

If you haven't watched it, go do so now.

Arona pretty much dominated Fedor that fight. It was a classic.

This fight was much, much better than Arona/Fedor IMO. The fluidity & explosiveness of Aronas slams are just flawless. The leverage he gets in that fight, totally nullifying Hendos striking, was a thing of beauty.

Also goes to show that grappling in MMA hasn't come all that far. This is elite stuff.

How does that fight show anything about how far grappling has or hasn’t come along today?

All of Aronas fights were brilliant grappling exchanges. He was one of the greatest MMA wrestlers ever.

And IMO this fight with hendo was the best display of it. There are moments in the fight where it almost looks like a pro wrestling match, the way Arona utilizes the ropes in order to set up his slams.

Haha! Nice. I've watched that fight twice, dunno that I'll ever watch it again. It's a tough watch! Neither guy was the same after that.

This one is great in a completely different way.

What I meant was that Aronas wrestling was right on par with what we see today. There is no disparity whatsoever. He reminds me a lot of Khabib but far more athletic & without the ground & pound.
