Any ideas how I can fix it?
Should I cut the split parts and try to tie new knots?
If the splits aren't too bad you can just trim the strings to a point they are clean. Then you should take a lighter and melt the edges of the strings and then tie a after they cool down. If it is really bad you can buy a new draw string and replace it.
So it is made of synthetics when it can me melted with a lighter?
Mine has actually split in a tumble dryer, this is what it looks like:
I was also thinking of sewing the ends when I cut them off and skipping the knots altogether....
burn it. even if you cut it clean itll still eventually unravel
Just cut it and then burn them. They will melt and won't unravel again. I do it all the time.
Thank you guys, I burned it and it worked like a charm!
Very happy to help! You may want to do this with new pants before you use them if the ends are not melted already.
