Help me quit smoking!

Fuck that suicide already runs in my family

wellbutrin also has a black box warning, although less documented instances of hostility, aggression, and suicidal ideation. that said, when combined with nicotine replacement therapy (the patch) you get cessation rates between 30-50%

honestly dude, hit up a smoking cessation specialist, and perhaps a psychiatrist as well. addiction/addictive behavior is just as much a mental condition as depression or anxiety. people with underlying disorders often gravitate towards cigarettes as a coping mechanism.

cigarettes are suicide, just on a less-immediate timeline.

Ill tell you what man, Ill quit with you. I had quit for almost a year with a vape and I was down to 0% nicotine, but I deployed overseas and that went to shit. BJJ and Muay Thai were the things that helped me cope with anger and rage, and I don't get to train very often while deployed. But I am willing to give it a shot. I will try what a buddy suggested and chew on toothpicks when I want to smoke. He suggested dipping it in peppermint oil if you smoke menthols to get the same type of feeling as smoking.

pick up a can of grizzly wintergreen.

Read some stories on heart disease, people dying suddenly etc.. scare yourself free.

Throw that shit in the trash, idk. Not going inside places where you can buy cigs is a good idea, so I second what RJ said.

I've smoked many cigarettes and never grown dependent so it's hard for me to comment. But think of the things that are more important to you, i.e. training and if it's worth short-changing that just for a smoke (or 10).

At least one professional BJJ'er and MMA fighter partakes...... Kron.
Like Johnny Hendricks, he dips even during post-fight interviews.
I know he likes the ganj but does kron smoke cigarettes? I would imagine Rickson would kill him lol

You aren't hooked. Control your mind dont let it control you. Just stop buying them and go cold turkey. Theres no secret formula to quitting you just cant be a pussy

I have been successful quitting when I'm sick. I already feel terrible anyway and the actual physical cravings they say are past after several days. It's psychological after that. My problem is that my wife thought it would be a good idea to buy me a tobacco pipe for father's day after I had quit for years. Most people smoke pipes a couple times a day to relax. I smoke it like its my oxygen. Havent gotten sick again yet enough to try and quit.

Got divorced about a year ago and started smoking pretty heavily. I feel the damage accruing and I'm so ready to quit but legit hooked. Needless to say my cardio has suffered.

Any similar experiences or advice?

Flaming welcomed in this thread.

- You should stop smoking, because you contribute to the pollution of this magnificent ROUND world, you can start a fire incident and put on risk the lives of several innocent living being`s of the fauna and flora.

Rocky stopped smoking, when he got serious about facing Apollo Creed on the greatest movie ever made. So if aren`t one of those pompous hippies, that go around talking about annoying movies that aren`t fun, you should join a gym, start training and get in a altercation with a very talented and angry gentleman.
This way you will have a reason take cardio serious.

Ohhh. And if you don`t stop smoking, your fore-head will get wrinkled like a 90`s year`s old ball-sack.

Alright, today's the day. Been sick as a dog and I'm developing a chronic cough. Enough's enough. Thanks for the advice support and shit talking everyone. I'm just gonna see if I can go cold turkey.

I'll check in with progress.

NASH, you ready??

You've got this man. Do you want to live? You've got this.

Hey.

@mattemate

Stop fucking smoking.

I believe in you. Seriously. Your avatar is Charles Bukowski, you're clearly a man of discerning sensibilities.

I am ready. starting now.

I am a very experienced quitter. The toughest days are day one and day 5 for some reason. Then it gets easier and by day 12 all physical cravings are gone. If you can abstain for 12 days you are clean.

Mental cravings are completely different story. This may last for many years. Usually, after a few months of not smoking I'd get drunk and smoke a cigarette or two with friends... Then next day I am back to pack a day.

Yeah it's always been the not smoking while drinking thing that gets me started again. FWIW I'm sick and have allergies right now so it's a little easier. I thought I was over being sick and now wondering if quitting actually caused me to flame up like this.

Plus I read all about COPD today, my throat is raw, I had a fucking fight with my girlfriend because she's complaining I cough too much so I basically told her to go fuck herself, and I visited my dad who had a goddamned stroke 7 years ago yet STILL smokes. So I have a lot of motivation to quit right now.

He drank like a damn fish and I'm sure he smoked a few. But was he a smoker-smoker? I just wish I could find that moderation but with this vice I seem to be all or nothing.
