I know this topic comes up every few years, but it's a fascinating proposition.

If combat sports were competed on the basis of height (vs. weight), what would the ramifications be? Here are some ideas, please add your own:

- There would be no incentive to cut weight and therefore the neurological and metabolic risks associated with extreme dieting would be negated.

- Athletes would probably be competing around their walk-around weight. If anything, we could see bulking prior to competitions.

- I don't think we will see too many O'Malley's (i.e., tall, skinny guys) but will see guys stocky, bulky Romero-like figures dominating.

- There would potentially be much more classes for competition, separated by around 1-2"

- There would potentially be much more reception to open-height competitions (which would effectively be open-weight as well)

- There would be no point in doing a "height-in"

- There would be no champ-champ status, unless you are Shane Carwin
