Hbo throws in the towel

I've seen two Wire episodes to date and keep telling myself I need to pick it up from the start some day, and it's been 2 yrs already since I decided that. It didn't really grab me enough to make it a priority, I guess.
Sopranos is a slow burn you gotta give it a minute, then you wont be disappointed. Probably the best series to date for HBO. And yes that includes GoT.

GoT had potential but has gotten predicatable (maybe thats why they delayed the new season...lol...they really gotta step up. You know whats gonna happen over the next 2-3 episodes but looks like the writers have no idea how to wrap this thing up, like they're expecting to get another 10 seasons out of it.

Boardwalk Empire is worth a watch, I thought it ended too soon.

The underrated series is True Blood if you can get into that sort of thing.

As far as Goodfellas, solid movie but I wouldn't even put it up against Casino. Without Joe Pesci in Goodfellas it would've flopped.

Goodfellas is better than Casino without question.
Casinos a good movie but Goodfellas is an elite movie

Yeah I got to agree with you there. Goodfellas is an epic gangster rise and fall type of film, the gold standard by which others compare to it.

Stick with the wire, eventually, you'll end up hooked and be binge-watching all the seasons. I can't remember how long it took me to get into, probably around halfway through the first season.

I guess I've seen them both too damn much an confusing one over the other.

Once Game of Thrones is done, I am through with HBO. Boxing was one of the reasons I had it.

I had no idea how bitter the African-American community was with HBO boxing until this recent announcement about the end of HBO boxing. Social media and YouTube is filled with applause and rants from the community about how HBO boxing was racist towards black boxers and didn’t support guys like Mayweather, Hopkins and even Roy Jones? It’s hard to tell what is typical race card pulling or what is legitimate.

I can imagine they are going on about the Eastern European agenda that HBO had and accusing them of being against American fighters (especially Black American fighters). I'm guessing Fannon is quite vocal about HBO going and the Lions Den Boxing Community are probably celebrating.

If its from social media, its likely just someone saying buzzwords for likes.

No there’s several “podcast” type videos on YouTube, some from guys who have a pretty decent boxing following.

DBN

And he makes a good case

For me it was

when Bodie and Poot killed Wallace. I think that's the last half of season 1. That was rough but it wasn't cheap. It was set up well, moved the show forward and gave me something to hope for.

What's weird is a couple of seasons later I started finding myself sympathetic for Bodie and happy that Poot got out.

Yeah I remember that and it was a sort of seminal moment. Poor Wallace.

Talking about racist HBO? People just say shit about racism to get people to listen to them.

It was the Bob Arum and Oscar De La Hoya machine that helped HBO reach its peak in boxing during the late 90’s and early 2000, and they where heavily criticized, Arum for not having enough black fighters in his promotion and De La for not fighting any up until Whitaker, HBO was in fact heavily biased towards Mexican fighters

Mayweather was very vocal about how HBO treated him prior to the Corrales fight, he said he was offered a “slave contract” and the only way he could get a better contract was defeat Corrales

HBO was very bitter about Trinidad (a long Showtime fighter) winning an undeserving decision over their golden boy, then applauded Hopkins for embarrasing him

Showtime boxing, during the Bob Arum and De La Hoya era televised a spectrum of different cultures in boxing, from Eubank Sr, Tyson, Benn, McClellan, Hatton, Tszyu, Calzaghe, Trinidad, Chavez Sr, Ward

And to this day Showtime hasnt changed their cultural target all that much, all though that can change if Golden Boy jumps ship and reunite with Espinoza

Not really bitter but entitled and prejudiced as fuck. Basically they expect special treatment based on the colour of their skin. Its as clear cut hateful racism as there is but as it is from a "minority" no one cares and they even victimize themselves.

Whoa! You seem bitter too lol. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it reverse racism, but I agree with the victimization. There’s truth that HBO hasn’t promoted some of its black athletes like they have some others, but it is not because HBO doesn’t like black people, lol. That’s just ridiculous. It’s just business. The African-American boxing fan base has dwindled significantly in the last two decades, and they’re just reaching out to other markets. The UFC has done the exact same thing, when they tried to get Caine into the Mexican market, and Cung Le to Asia.

This is a good post. It shows that black boxing fans aren’t just making up some of their criticisms. But it equally shows that HBO isn’t racist. There’s just been some business decisions and boxing “politics” that has put them at odds with some of their black athletes.
