Has anyone meditated for hours?

my back was fucking with me so I took a couple flexeril which didn't help so I took a couple vicodin which still didn't work so I decided to speed it up and took a couple big swigs of crown royal and that made me vegetate for a couple hours I'm sure that counts right?

My Doctor recommended this same procedure. Small world.

Closest I've came is sitting in silent darkness for hours on hallucinogenic drugs.

I came home shit hammered and covered in puke. I ran a bath and got in with my clothes and boots still on and passed out for like 3 hours, I think that counts. It was really deep, it aligned my shakras

I meditate for 6 to 8 hours per night.

I've only recently started, but I have trouble getting past 10 minutes.

Apparently one guy tried meditation for hours under water. He died. There's a thread about it.

I've done 40 minutes plus before.
Like hitting the reset button.
I like to say that "Some of the best night's sleep I've ever gotten, I was awake for."

Yes I have. It was also at a Buddhist temple my Asian friend brought me to. I failed though, I couldn't get my mind in the proper state to have any type of feeling except "when will this be over". Lol.

Btw, it was a 2 hour session at this dope temple in the mountains. The room had glass walls and our view was jungle. All the pieces were in place but I just couldn't get there.

Meditation takes time and practice, and it is a skill like any other. Why else would monks spend years attempting to master it? I've read and been told that it can take a long time before one experiences even a second of true emptiness, but that the journey is worth the arrival.

Yeah, I have. Both in a flotation chamber and in the a meditation service (of a sort). It's hard to get in the habit of being silent and introspective that long, but i found that if you can have absolute stillness for 15 minutes then you can do it for a couple of hours.

Yeah, that makes sense. I shouldn't have expected much from one session.

A couple people I train bjj with meditate. They've been doing it for years. When they say it benefits their life, I believe them.

Yeah. I stopped smoking weed for 7 days (shut up!!) to lower my tolerance. I then packed some fat bong bowls and rolled a fat J, trying to get to that "too high" state.

I just sat in a dark room in my house and I think I made it btwn 2-3 hrs. My initial intentions were to try for abt 6 hours but sleep seemed inevitable, as I did this late at night. I just did rhythmic breathing and stilling the mind (thoughts are like clouds drifting by). I got some very intense buzzing, insane colorful stroboscopic closed eye visuals.

It was awesome, but meditation is, afterall, medicinal and not dietary. So unless you are trying to accomplish something specific or cathartic, the most that you can get out if is total immersion in the present moment, and after a while you'd rather get up and do a thing instead of sitting in zazen for hours. Overall was awesome though. Once you get deep enough and feel the ego dissolve, it makes no difference how much psychedelia you've consumed. Vibrations are vibrations, colors are colors, life is life. Definitely recommend to try it out!

It's all the same. Psychedelics serve as a launched, but once you get far out, you are far out my friend! The buzzing sensation, swirling colors, release of muscular tension, etc. is all the same. The road to get out there is much easier with psychedelics, but with correct breathing and humming/chanting, you can get to a similar "place" for sure

Right on!

Was it a mantra meditation or was it a specific type of breathing?

Also, where you on a vegetarian diet or sexually abstinent for a more potent effect?

It is hard to do - i've been practicing off and on for few years now and still is veryhard to do. I'm good for about 30mins (if I am setting down a time for a long meditation) and after that it begins to be a struggle to not lose focus or fall asleep. LOL.

I am wondering, if you meditate after or around 40 minutes and up. Do you ever experience a cooling sensation?

That I think a good description. Its a long journey. Ive been interested in it since I can remember. As I see it, first you need to quell your mind, usually by breath or any other onepointed meditations and then controling the thoughts and letting them go, as you have that anchor point. But this is ony the beginning. Cause It might sound weird but the more you make your mind peaceful the more its like, I dunno, you realize how incredibly youre basically delusional, how much you selectively perceive everything and filter.
As you meditate more and more, I feel you get this feeling, sometimes like a flash of the journey ahead, I dunno how to describe it, of how much more our consciousness is capable off, how cornered we are, neglecting potential. Im not talking about that "only using x percent of our brain" thats nonsense anyway supposedly or having superpowers...
Its just theres so much more there, so much more awareness to things we have lost over the years.

Haven't noticed but it helps with my headaches and oxygen to my brain as I tend to breath in a very anxious manner.

Next time I do I will try to see if I'm experiencing cooling sensation.

I have meditated for 4 hours or so. I've been meditating for around three hours a day for over 20 years.

I am curious to know if anyone has done intensive meditation for hour's at a time?

If so, please share experience with me.
If by meditate, you mean "watch porn and masturbate for hours", then yes. Yes I am
