So I just stumbled upon this guy:
http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Bryan-Robinson-5010

Bryan 'Hardcore' Robinson

Record looked funky. So I went in to investigate.
Turns out he's the ultimate rematch king. He had 110 fights in total, but only 69 unique opponents. Because he's really into rematches. I mean, REALLY into rematches:

He fought Anthony Seu 2 times and went 0-2.

He fought Jason Miller (not the famous one) 2 times and went 1-1.

He fought Jim Stepleton 2 times and went 0-2.

He fought Joe Alvarez 2 times and went 1-1. Thats also the only time Joe Alvarez won a fight.

He fought Joe Garner 2 times and went 2-0. That dude is 0-5 in his career.

He fought John Medina 2 times and went 2-0. That dude is 6-24 in his career.

He fought Josh Stamp 2 times and went 0-2.

He fought Kyle Gowans 2 times and went 2-0. That dude also has a funny record: http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Kyle-Gowans-5737

He fought Manuel Quiroz 2 times and went 2-0. Both time the dude got injured. The dude is also 6-21.

He fought Matt Albright 2 times and went 2-0. One time via 'fatigue'. That Albright dude is 3-24.

He fought Nick Fratzke 2 times and went 0-2. He fought him on November 4th and November 11th 2001. Just a week apart. He lost by RNC in the first round both fucking times. Those are also the only fights on Fratzke's record who leaves the sport undefeated. All praise the mighty Fratzke. http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Nick-Fratzke-5475

He fought Ron Faircloth 2 times and went 0-2. Our hero submitted to strikes in the first round both times.

He fought Rory Prazak 2 times and went 0-2. He got finished in the first round both times.

But it gets better:

He fought Andrew Reinard 3 times and went 3-0. These are also the only fights on Reinards record: http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Andrew-Reinard-7154 Serious wtf alert.

He fought Kareema Bennett 3 times and went 0-3. Bennett choked him out three times.

He fought Kevin Oliver 3 times and went 0-3.

He fought Kurt Marble 3 times and went 0-3. Also got submitted three times.

He fought Davey Conger 4 times and went 2-2

He fought Shawn Nolan 4 times and went 4-0. He whopped that dude's ass good, because he actually TKO'd him every time. Also three of those fights happened in the span of about 1 month. In Shawn Nolan we also find an impressive record. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the ultimate can to be crushed: http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Shawn-Nolan-5080 Total MMA record of 6-46.

He fought Wes Wrage 4 times and went 0-4. The hilarious fucking thing about it is that Wrage apparently finished him by NECK CRANK (!!!!) ALL FOUR TIMES. These are also the only fights on Wrage's record! Look at this shit: http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Wes-Wrage-5437 !!!!!!!!

He fought Nate Kopel a whopping 6 times and went 6-0. He fucked the same dude up 6 times. Kopel got RNC'd twice and submitted to punches three times. He's also 0-10. So more than half of his MMA career was spent fighting and losing to the same fucking guy. http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Nate-Kopel-5075

And for the highlight of the evening:

He fought Travis Fulton 7 times and went 0-7. Our hero got TKO'd twice, submitted three times and KO'd twice. Four of those fights happened in november 2007. So our hero got KO'd, submitted, submitted again and TKO'd by THE SAME FUCKING GUY in the span of just 14 days. What the serious fuck.

So all in all our Rematch Hero fought 22 opponents more than once! And he really liked the guys that whopped his ass, he kept going back to them.

What a legend.

That's really strange. No one should've allowed some of that funny business to happen. I can't believe Fulton gave this guy the time of day after the first three fights.

Holy shit. He's been submitted 55 Fucking times. At what point do you start working on your submission defense.

Listen, you know what preparing for an opponent is not? - It's not HARDCORE !
For sure. Seems like a guy just showing up to take a quick beating for a few hundred bucks. When the going gets tough the hardcore immediately tap out apparently. Another weird question though, how do you get medically cleared to fight one week after getting KO'd? I could see that in 1997, but in 2007????

Nice post and analysis. This is maybe the most interest thing I've seen dredged up from Fight Finder.

I feel like there are a lot of very curious fighter records out there. Must be interesting stories behind those. A good number of HARDCORE's opponents have very strange records themselves :D

In a way it would be really cool if some of those dudes could be interviewed on youtube at least once, just to get a feel for a side of MMA way removed from the bright lights of UFC title fights. Wouldn't it be fascinating to get 'Hardcore's story about those two weeks where Travis Fulton kicked his ass four times? Why the fuck did he think a seventh time would be a good idea? And what did Andrew Reinard ever do to him that he coerced him into a cage and beat him up three times? :D

Hell I'd be more interested in hearing strange stories like that than watching a lot of UFC fights :D

Ive heard Fulton is friends with some of the guys he's fought multiple times, like he'll carpool to the fight with his friend then beat his ass.

Glad I'm not friends with Fulton. Just sounds like a matter of time before he's beating the shit out of you.

Not too mention; 110 fights, just 1 decision. Awesome stuff, haha

His first 40+ fights all ended in the 1st round. There were a couple of "N/A"s in there, but the first fight to actually show something other than a 1st rd end was his 62nd fight.

Go big or go home I guess.

Hahaha that's fucking amazing :)

Go HARDCORE!

And that single decision in 110 fights - that was actually his second to last fight. I guess the fire just wasnt there anymore :D

===============

Edit: I just noticed another amazing fact. Hardcore retired by the age of 29 !!!! The dude had 110 fights and all those crazy rematches before he was even 30. What the fuck. He's only 32 now, having last fought in 2013.

I say it's high time for another run! Imho he should really rematch some of those dudes that beat his ass! :D : D :D

Does anybody know how much money people like Hardcore made per fight? I'm trying to figure out why someone would do this lol

Interesting... fighting the same guy 7 times has to be close to a record if its not.

Plenty of stories about guys having to fight pro bono in the low-level regional circuit, especially back in the day. I even remember one interview where someone said that they had to pay to fight, though even I find that a bit to incredulous.
