Gunnar Nelson: 'For The Next McGregor vs. Khabib Camp, I'll be There'

Gunnar is a better grappler than Khabib
It isn’t going to make a difference to Conor because he’s so far behind both but Gunni is indeed a better grappler than Kebab.
He’s just very undersized for his division and stay true to his principles of being against weight cutting while Khabib kills himself to make 155
You're going to get hate for this but you could be right. Khabib is very effective with his wrestling but his relentlessness is what gets him the takedown more times than not. On the ground he's way less lethal than Gunnar, always has a hard time finishing.

Gunnar is good to have in that camp if he is actually going to push Conor BUT it is still leading to the same problem he had last time. Gunnar and Danis do not fight anything like Khabib. They're good for generally helping his bjj but they cannot emulate Khabib worth shit.

It's an improvement but still feeding into the problem.

Gunni smeshes these Bearded Russians, is normal.

Disagree. Gunnar has great BJJ but his wrestling TDs and top control are not on Khabib's level. He has great submissions and sub defense and has done great in pure BJJ but I honestly believe Khabib would beat Gunnar. Just a bad stylistic match up for him.

People seem to forget that besides Maia Gunnar was extremely dominant literally everytime it hit the mat despite being way weaker than everyone of his opponents
He was truly the case that one takedown and you stay the whole ground there, and iirc he mounted every single opponent he got a takedown bar Maia.
While Khabib while being way stronger rarely mantains top control for long, hence the gigantic number of takedowns he has

Khabib definetly has better Takedowns, 100%
But Gunnar’s top control is better, he only needs one takedown per round and always gets mount very quickly.
While people scapes Khabib while on bottom lots of times and numerous times he just holds them down instead of doing damage and getting dominant positions

So in other words if Gunnars grapling is good ,Conor will also be good !!!

And you all expecting Khabib to stay where he is ???
Ok,here you got mine.next time Khabib will beat Conor standing.
How about that ? At least he did show us his striking skills but we didnt see anything about Conors ‘’yeah less wressle’’

That's mainly due to, no offense to Gunni, the level of competition. Most guys that Gunnar manages to sub have no notable grappling background and generally dont go far in the division. They're good fighters but just don't have the grappling experience to keep up with him.

As opposed to Khabib who has mainly had issues of people escaping against RDA(BJJ BB with great wrestling), Abel(4 time NAIA div 1 All American), Edson(TDD specialist who constantly recovered guard against Lee), and roided out Tibau (massive and has some of the best TDD EVER). In most cases once he gets guys down the stay down and he can effectively work from any position topside.

Gunnar is a better submissionist FOR SURE. However as far as the full package goes Khabib is better. I'd love for those two to fight. It would be an amazing display of grappling.

It couldn't hurt. Not sure why this is triggering everybody.

Maia has fought at 185 . It’s no reason to keep holding that Maia win over him

What, for the training or the next post fight brawl?

Conors too far behind for Gunnars training to help, and Gunnars too nice of a guy to start a riot. Won't make a difference

yeah gunnar's grappling sucks, what could he do!

this site, lmao.
It’s unreal.

It’s also unreal just how bad Conor’s camps are. Who knows what would happen if he faced elite dudes testing his metal on the daily.

Gunnar is much better suited than Dillon, that is for sure. Danis' game is solely defensive and bottom and attack orientated. Gunnar is more dominant position orientation. Really, they need to bring in some elite wrestlers - spend the money and get it done right.

And
Gunnar escaped that Demian Maia body triangle - in fact, he escaped Maia’s full backmount 3 times.

He got a schooling that night from Maia, no doubt, but make no mistake: Gunnar Nelson is a wizard on the ground in his own right.
Maia was at least 20 pounds bigger than him. Gunnar is essentially a LW that doesn’t want to cut any weight so he fights at WW. I’m not saying he would beat Maia if they weighed the same but it would at the very least be much closer.

Gunny carries the magic sprinkle pouch, he will bring it this time, sprinkle on McG, make him world-class on the ground in no time

Demian Maia is a lot bigger than Marcelo Garcia too, but Marcelo twists Maia into knots when they roll. I don’t think it’s a size thing, there are just levels to the game.

I’m sure Gunnar learned a lot from that experience though, and his ground game will benefit a lot from it in the long run.
