When people think of amazing pickers in rock guitar, they think of guys like Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert, and Michael Angelo Batio.

When they think of guitarists with formidable picking techniques that are more fusion oriented, they tend to name John McLaughlin and Al Dimeola. Pack De Lucia too, although he uses his fingers instead of a pick.

The name that is missing from the above lists of guitarists and deserves to be held in the same esteem as the rest is Steve Morse! Not only dos he have a very fast and clean picking style but the licks he plays are sometimes incredibly complicated licks to play fast and clean, yet he seems to do it with ease! He's also a master of quite a few different genres of music, possibly the most well rounded of all the players I've mentioned with the possible exception of John McLaughlin because of his mastery of Indian classical music along with jazz and jazz fusion.

James is arguably one of the best if not the best downpicker in metal

Thank you! Hats off to Steve Morse! Nobody ever talks about him, much less even know who he is. What about:
