GSP is boring.. how was he ever PPV king?

So.... Don't watch any of his title defenses. So... They were all boring?

He wasn't. His biggest draw was Brock Lesnar destroying Mir.

As for pre Serra 1, he wasn't drawing shit until 100 when Brock gave him the rub.

What are you smoking? Look at GSP's #'s compared to everyone else. FYI GSP vs Hughes 3 did more PPV buys than Lesnar vs Mir 1 and it was before it....so I don't know what you're talking about. Haha. The ufc convinced clowns that “rounds won” is the most important stat in mma..also those clowns tried to convince people that 50-45 was more conclusive than a finish

Hahahaha. I laugh only because I never went with it but boy it was a thing here

Watching some of GSP's old fights.. just wondering why he was ever popular? The majority of his fights go to decisions (all of his last 7 fights went to decision), he got beaten by a midget Matt Serra and he doesn't know how to trash talk. Why did people ever like the guy? Was it just because he was Canadian?

It’s called pure dominance. Serra was a fluke and gsp damn near killed him in the rematch it was so bad. GSP almost never even lost rounds let alone fights. MM is the only fighter with his dominance.

So your saying Anderson’s win over Chael was better, more dominant and “conclusive” than GSP over Fitch.

Boy, it's a good thing this thread has never been done before. Your originality is mind-blowing.

He also carried cards simply by himself.

Didn't Struve and that dude that tapped up co main the koscheck or hardy fight.

Maybe because he is a consummate professional, polite, respectful, and masterful tactician. His good looks and ripped physique that attracted a lot of casual female viewers to the sport didn't hurt either.

Hahahaha. I laugh only because I never went with it but boy it was a thing here

The most important stat in any sport is wins. Anyone who thinks otherwise has never done any sport.

For that matter, its also the most important stat in any war.

How you win is nice, but its a very distant second to winning. People who want to talk about how you won are usually people who lost and want to console themselves by saying they outplayed or outfought their opponent. But they'd rather have won.

I don't think GSP is at the top of wins in high level MMA (MM is I think, followed by Anderson), but he's near the top, so he's got to be considered an extremely successful fighters.

I don't think the UFC really did ever try to convince people of that fact. All I personally remember is the repetitive droning orders from Dana "Don't leave it in the hands of the judges!" Conversely, I think people (whilst they were constantly encouraged otherwise) actually appreciated pure skill... not only skill, but greatness. That's why GSP was such a big draw in his time.

Does no one remember the period leading up to a GSP fight? You were genuinely excited. Not because you thought you were going to witness a barn burner (we witnessed those on the undercards every week!) but because you were going to witness greatness!

Also... it's hard to convince clowns that "rounds won" is more important, when the guy actually lasted a record stretch without EVER losing a round. Remember that period when GSP literally never lost a round?? If you don't respect that achievement, you clearly don't remember how impressive it was within the context of the time.

The join date and username tell the entire story...

Majority of his fan base are either Canadian or still in the closet.

Or both.

In fights where GSP was not the defending UFC champion, his record is 14-1 with 10 finishes, or 15-1 with 11 finishes if you count the unification title match. Not boring in my books, but okay.

He made a rookie mistake in the first fight with Hughes, tapping with 1 second left in a round he easily would have won. He avenged that loss with two very definitive finishes.

He underestimated Matt Serra and paid the price for it. He also took his loss like a man, and praised Serra. He didn't make lame excuses or hide his face in a purple pillow. He also beat him savagely in the rematch, and I wouldn't be surprised if he cracked all of Serra's ribs on that side with those knees.

He fought smart and safe while defending his title many times. I don't think he'll lose any sleep over casuals not being excited while he counts his millions.

Looking at the list again, Rashad Evans is prolly the most underrated PPV draw in UFC history...I legit just realized it rn...he did get matched up with a lot of names but still...I hope he's living large rn cuz these #'s are huge

UFC 145 Jones vs. Evans 700,000
UFC 114 Evans vs. Jackson 1,000,000
UFC 98 Evans v. Machida 635,000
UFC 92 Griffin v. Evans 1,000,000
UFC 88 Liddell v. Evans 480,000

He headlined about 3 or 4 more PPV's as well. I hope he's worth millions cuz that's over 200 million dollars in PPV money just in those 5 events.
