Bonds probably would’ve hit 1000 if off speed pitches and intentional walks didn’t exist.

Bonds probably would've struggled to hit 500 homeruns without steroids. Go look at his first six or seven years in the league. Bonds was great before the steroids but not as a power hitter, he was great because he was a five tool player

Ruth probably would’ve struggled to hit 500 home runs if 90% of the players didn’t get hammered during games. He also may have hit 800 if he wasn’t a drunken fatass as well.

I'm sure when Bonds was on the gas that all those poor pitchers that had to face him were just natty dudes that got there with good old fashioned hard work and protein shakes.

I thought I saw historians cite something was different back then like maybe shittier overworked pitchers where there wasn't 5 man rotations and maybe larger ballparks. The HR totals per player per season were really low back then.
I don't know much about baseball but have read and watched lot about babe
Imo greatest and in cleanest era

Someone else already pointed out he dominated in a time when players were drinking/smoking during games, didn't face non-white competition, didn't face finely tuned athletes of today. It's a different game. He was also bigger than the other players. I'm talking physical size. If I played against elementary school kids, I'd probably bat .900 with 90% of my hits being homeruns.

Also, I thought I saw somewhere the early days ballparks didn't even have boundary fences.

Really? He get destroyed today ?

I didn't say that. Perhaps pitchers and specialist relief pitchers would study video and tendencies and shut him down a bit. He sure ain't going to stand out so far from everyone else. I do believe some modern star players could put up huge numbers if they played in Babe's era. The modern game is probably more cerebral and refined than in the old days. Even with baseball bats, I cannot imagine the old bats being as carefully crafted as modern bats.

I'm thinking a guy like Rickey Henderson with leadoff power and base stealing could win games by himself.

Ruth’s stats in a league with like 8 teams with everyday dudes are about as credible as Eric Thames in the KBO.

He used like a 42oz bat or something lol.. I think the average in today’s mlb is around 30.

Is it like royce with today's training ?

How heavy was Barry Bonds' bat during his big time HR days? I think he choked the bat too.

Royce was NOT an impressive physical specimen, which was why he was selected for UFC 1. If GSP was in UFC 1, he would have wrecked everyone.

Babe was a large dude, who may have been part black, playing against only whites who may not have been dedicated like modern athletes with respect to strength and conditioning.

Think of it like an elite college baseball player competing against shitty high school players or something like that.
