Getting into shape before starting training

Disclaimer: I didn't really read most this thread.

That out of the way just on topic of the thread title. I don't think you need to "get into shape before doing X martial art/combat sport" but it CAN depend on the gym you join. If it's a middle tier gym where the instructor's will bring you up to speed and gradually increase intensity as you progress, then NO you don't need to be "in shape" before you start. The training itself will condition as you progress naturally.

Now if you walk into a pro level gym full of pro boxers who are doing insane training sessions along with insane conditioning, then it may be too much for you right out the gate and you will need the first type of place I mentioned.
