Get rid of the 10-9 must scoring

Been saying that for years. It sucks for MMA. PRIDE's scoring wasn't perfect but judging the fights as a whole is much better. The 10pt system promotes points fighting. Fights like Bisping/Hendo make it look like the shitty system it is.

Fans are such hypocrites though. If their fighter is on the winning end of a decision like this they'll tell every one who disagrees they just don't understand the scoring system. If their fighter is on the losing end, the same people will point to who did the most damage and say their fighter got robbed.

Get rid of the 10-9 system and replace it with what?

Hendo won under the current criteria if judges weren't biased

I think Pride scoring is biased towards giving the end of the fight more weight. Hendo would've lost the Shogun fight by Pride rules and possibly this fight as well given how his best rounds were early on and he was gassed at the end.

the 10-9 scoring is fine, the way that is interpreted is what is wrong. According to the judges if two guys fight, the first land 20 jabs, doing 0 damage and the other land 2 punches, knocking down his opponent twice, making his face a mess, the first guy wins the fight.

Keep the 10 point must system but just have it visible to the audience after each round like they did it K1 a while back. That way everyone will know who's winning the fight and could boo if they think the judges scored the round wrong. It would also give the fighters more incentive to finish if they definitely knew they were behind.

There will always be problems associated with any sport where the winner is decided by judges. Scoring citeria are often subjective, and different judges will tend to interpret things differently. On top of that, some fights are damn difficult to score no matter what system you use.

I would be in favour of a system that results in extremely close fights being called a draw. No one is ever happy about close split decisions.

That is the problem, there is no 10-9 must, a round can be scored 10-10.

If more judges scored rounds 10-10 and 10-8, fighters would A, not edge the first 2:31st of a round then coast to "win" it, and B, it would encourage fighters to go for more finishes. They would know if they blew their ward trying to finish, at least they won the round 10-8.

Look what happened to Henderson when he tried to finish in round 1, no judge gave him the round 10-8 and he blew his wad for round 2, and despite getting another knockdown against bisping, one idiot judge gave it 10-9 bipsing for round 2.

Yeah, but If a fighter KNOWS he's up he'll just coast.

Nothing wrong with the rule. The issue is how to enforce the rule:

10 - 10 = Too close to call (and that's OK)
10 - 9 = A clear winner of the round
10 - 8 = Domination of one fighter over another
10 - 7 = Why has this fight not been stopped?

More 10 - 10s should be given
