In 'Hajime No Ippo', Gazelle punch was introduced as a kind of hook. However, Ippo throws it as an uppercut. Every time Ippo throws a Gazelle punch, it looks like throwing an uppercut. How does it happen?

How does it happen that HnI uses it as a uppercut instead of the jump in hook it is in real boxing? It is a nimde/manga that either does not get it right or the author feel that he must modify it for his protagonist. In real boxing it is a hook with a jumping instep.

Looks like it can be a hook thrown with a vertical trajectory, especially if you are springing into it.

The gorilla overhand is more badass imo

Wait... duck, jump and turn punch?
That's like... a real-life shoryuken! :D

So a gazelle punch is just a looping hook, that you step or jump into?

Wont some trainer say that is bad technique because if someone times it they can throw the cross and tuck there head in for defense and you will come flying into that cross?

It's a hook that utilizes a hop step to traverse ground.

I wouldn't say it's bad technique. Many boxers use it. Like Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. It's certainly possible to get caught with a counter (just like any technique), but the fighters good at landing it know how to disguise it with various rhythms while using good head movement and footwork.

What does that look like? And why it always has to be animals from Africa?
Because those animals are the "bad" types. You think something like "puppy uppercut" or "koala jab" is going to sell any fear or badassery in it?

The worst part of that last video is at 00.35 when the woman is helping the kid up but when she sees something coming from under the car she runs off leaving the kid behind to face his own fate lol
