URCC is their grassroots org. Excellent platform for building new stars but it isnt really considered one of the big leagues in Asia. ONE on the other hand is huge af and covers a lot of countries in the Southeast Asian region.

Big congrats to Folayang, he's a beast for beating a legend like Aoki.

Damn, congrats to Eduard. Aoki gassed and looked more muscled than usual, wonder if it had an effect on his cardio.

can we all agree now that aoki is vastly overrated and has been for a fair few years now? still he's a good fighter but he's not elite by any means.

They'll fire Aoki, hire Eduard and start some wushu classes.

Seriously though, at this point half the fun of watching One fc events is watching the Globo-Gym get murked by the Average Joes. Chatri has to do whats right for business, but I think there's a lot to be said for having a more legitimate competition and avoiding favouritism in the matchmaking. Most fans aren't dumb enough to NOT go on sherdog or google everyone on the card. We know who's good and who's shit. We will pay for quality fights with top fighters and not watch Evolve product no.36363 beat the shit out of egyptian top team's latest scrub.

No. I think everyone who's followed his career knows Aoki is very fragile and an upset is always on the cards against a guy with power.

Nobody has ever said he was unstoppable or even durable

I agree with your first point for sure, but a lot of casuals in the ufc section disagree, I've seen lots of people saying he'd be top 10 in the ufc, not unbeatable or durable but plenty have vastly overestimated his game because of his sub skills.

one of my favorite all time fights was Yuichiro Nagashima ko'ing aoki in the mma portion of their fight after stalling the entire round of the kickboxing section.

The thing about Aoki is that he's a glass cannon. He can lose brutally or win brutally against anyone on the UFC LW division, so he definitely could be top 10 (lets not forget he submitted the reigning champ in <2 minutes)....he could also be 0-2 and cut because he just cant take punishment.

I disagree about him being able to hang in the ufc top 10, I mean he just got defeated by Eduard Folayang who probably isn't even top 100. sure he subbed alvarez, but I think aoki was a better fighter back then, and alvarez was a much worse fighter, who brutally and rather easily avenged the loss later in his career. that being said it's not like he doesn't have a chance of subbing anyone, but he's too limited to be ranked in the ufc.

aoki wasnt hanging with the elite in the div, not in UFC or Bellator.

He'd get wrecked by the top 10 in UFC, Chandler would smoke him.

This. I'm still not very sure why Aoki joined up with Evolve in the first place. It sort of killed his entire rubber guard style that got him loads of results in Dream and now he's this pseudo wrestler top control fighter. I supposed Gil laying the smackdown on him probably influenced him, but his solution of training more muay thai seems ill advised in hindsight.

I absolutely love Aoki, but his overall mma skillset is limited unfortunately

Him and Imanari are probably my two favorite fighters though so im sad he lost

Nice. I picked Aoki on Tapology, but a left a caveat that I'd love to see him lose.
