Fighting since 2002. Still top and 1 victory away from a TS in 2018. Is Werdum GOAT in longevity?

One of the best HW of all time, this man has been doing this since 2002 and been among the best HW in the world in the most dangerous division in the sport.

Here we are, 2018 and Werdum is 1 victory away from getting a TS in the UFC.

Can we talk about GOAT longevity for Werdum?

Thoughts?

Love Werdum but he didn't become a beast until he went to Strikeforce and subbed Fedor. Since then the only people to beat him are Overeem and Stipe

If you´re fighting the GOAT , you´re already a beast.

Werdoom is awesome. Not sure what the heck he was thinking running after Stipe like he did.

GSP been fighting since 2002 and just won the title ...

I think the Reem has him beat in longvevity, simply because Alistair has taken an unbelievable amount of damage and is somehow still there. He has been knocked out several times in ways that would outright end the careers of others, and yet he remains elite. Werdum hasn't faced that level of adversity and also has far fewer fights.

Werdum is up there for sure, though. Incredible how good he's going at 40.

Vitor.

Fought at UFC 12 in 1997. Fighting grown ass men as a teenager. Won HW title at 19. Ranked #10 at MW all these years later.

Rafael Dos Anjos, he's been fighting since 2003 I think, and is next in line for the WW title.

Yeah many of the higher profile fighters his age have already retired or experienced a severe decline. Werdum is doing something right.

I can't believe he keeps taking fights avaisnt these lower ranked killers. Dude is a beast and I hope he beats Volkov.

He's kind of a fuck boy, and he's overrated by many, but overall he's a great fighter who has had a great career

Not important but he was a "HW Tournament Champion" not the actual UFC HW champ.

This.

Has been fighting 3 years longer. More than double the amount of fights Werdum had. Beat Werdum twice and is ranked above him.

Also Vitor of course

Its crazy to see these guys, Werdum, Vitor, Bisping, Hunt, Teixeira, Arlovski, Jacare, Condit and Shogun all still fighting and still top 15 fighters. All of them have been fighting game for at least 14 years.

Arlovski will be 20 years deep next year. Shit we thought he was washed up after those 3 Kos in a 4 bout losing streak in Strikeforce. Hes fought 19 more times across 7 more years.

"fuck boy? Com quem tu pensa que tu tá falando? Te quebro inteiro agora mesmo" <45>

There's no such thing as the GOAT in longevity.

To be a GOAT in MMA, you must have some long period of dominance that Werdum has never had. That means, dominant victory after dominant victory after dominant victory that pile up over the years.

Fedor has that. GSP has that. Silva has that. Aldo has that.

Werdum does not. He's had a great career, but not a GOAT career.
