You just highlighted another problem with leaving Facebook. It is so connected to other things. You use it to sign into so many things. I also wonder if Zuck lied to Congress here.

Yeah it's super handy, and that's mainly what I use it for. It's a hell of a lot more convenient than signing up for new accounts all over the place. I didn't mind that being shared with advertisers and used to sell stuff to me- I know they have to make money. But they are minimally forthcoming and shady as all fuck in everything they do, and everything they say is half the truth at most.

Hitler talked about this. He saw ideologies as viruses. If you want to infect people, you do it slowly. Gradually. So they become used to in incremental steps. You don't just drop the symptoms down like a hammer at once. The patient will notice that.

That is what Facebook did. Brought on the disease slowly. Like roots from a tree. Expanding. Expanding. Expanding.

To me it just seems like typical giant corporate behavior. Exploit the margins and shortcomings of the law and its enforcement to maximize profit. Deceive with plausible deniability. It just happens that this example of it is potentially super damaging to people in many ways. Free market, baby.
 
The people in control know the people at the bottom are stupid and will continue to graze their fields believing they are happy and free. It doesn't matter if it's right there in your face staring at you it is the human condition that is being manipulated not the person as an individual self. It is the fact that it's in human nature to be trusting of authoritative figures even if they lie continuously over and over the sheepish mind of the average human will continue to believe and to hope and to pray because the end game is survival at all costs even if it is your freedom.
 
The new European law has very very severe consequences and any company would be wise to try to leverage the liability away. They aren't playing around.

Looks to me like their strict government regulations are chasing about 1.5bn-worth of servers, server maintenance, and server-related tax dollars over to American shores.

But I’ll get ads on my phone or home computer for tools and construction related stuff, when I don’t even use my home computer for anything besides porn and gaming lol.

That black mirror episode about “likes” isn’t to far off of what we will have if someone doesn’t start curbing there intrusive power, lack of oversight.

It does exist already, just found it yesterday. To what extent it duplicates your Facebook profile, however, I don’t know.
 
It's not just Facebook. If you think that Google and Amazon and Apple, and other don't have a terrifying amount of information about you then you are crazy.
